Stripe already has a way for iOS developers to dodge Apple’s payment system

Payment processing platform Stripe just added a way for iOS developers to accept payments by linking outside their apps, dodging Apple’s commission fees. The move comes after a landmark ruling on Wednesday in the Epic v. Apple antitrust case. Apple can no longer charge developers 27 percent fees on purchases made outside apps, and it cannot dictate how developers point users to buy things elsewhere. Stripe product manager Michael Luo demoed how it works on X, and a guide shows developers how to accept transactions outside an app using Stripe Checkout. In the sample video, you can see someone preparing to buy digital fruit with in-app currency, but instead of showing a transaction page inside the app, it launches Safari and takes users straight to a “buy now” page. Other apps are also beginning to launch new updates that link to the web for in-app purchases, allowing the developers to skirt Apple’s commissions. Patreon announced yesterday that it will update its app so creators can accept payments outside Apple’s payment system. On Friday morning, Spotify …

Visa Partners Stripe-Owned Bridge to Launch Stablecoin Payment Cards: Details

Visa is hopping aboard the stablecoin hype with its latest partnership with Bridge, a Web3 subsidiary of fintech firm Stripe. The US-based payment cards giant said that developers using Bridge to create their apps can now offer stablecoin-linked Visa cards to their end customers across multiple nations as part of this partnership. Bridge is a developer-first payments company that helps creators juggle between currencies to suit their convenience. Stripe acquired Bridge for $1 billion (roughly Rs. 8,462 crore) in February this year, making this its most significant acquisition so far. Both the companies announced the development on April 30. They said that the main aim of this deal is to introduce stablecoins as legitimate payment options for day-to-day purchases that can be facilitated through cards, mimicking a familiar, traditional method of making transactions. “We’re focused on integrating stablecoins into Visa’s existing network and products in a frictionless and secure way,” said Jack Forestell, Visa’s Chief Product and Strategy Officer. Commenting on the partnership with Bridge, Forestell said, “It represents a significant move in helping to …

Stripe lays off 300 employees, sends cartoon duck image by mistake | World News

Stripe, the payment processing company, recently laid off 300 employees, or roughly 3.5% of its global workforce, as part of its annual review and planning for growth. However, the termination notifications were marred by an accidental image of a yellow cartoon duck being sent to some affected employees, reported CNN. In addition, some emails included incorrect termination dates, further compounding the blunder. Rob McIntosh, Stripe’s chief people officer, addressed the mistake in a memo, apologizing for the error and confirming that corrected notifications had been sent to all impacted employees. The layoffs are part of an annual review and planning for growth, a spokesperson for Stripe confirmed. Stripe, which had around 8,500 employees before the layoffs, aims to expand its workforce to 10,000 by year-end. This incident follows Stripe’s previous layoffs in 2022, when the company reduced its staff by 14% amid a wider wave of tech industry cutbacks.
