What can the UK do to save sinking varsities? Universities UK’s blueprint gives suggestions | Education News

The UK has been facing the challenge of reaching a mutual consensus on international students for the past few years. While the Rishi Sunak government was accused of invoking anti-immigration sentiment and policies, the Labour government is expected to take the opposite route. Amidst this discussion, Universities UK — a collective of universities in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — has released ‘Opportunity, growth, and partnership’, a blueprint for higher and international education. As per data from Universities UK, in the year ending March 2024, 4,46,924 sponsored study visas and 1,39,175 graduate-route visas were granted to main applicants. However, with what is believed to be former prime minister Rishi Sunak’s policies on international students, the number of international students is expected to decline further. This can be backed by the data provided the UK’s Home Office that shows receiving 28,200 applications for sponsored study visas in June, a nearly 28 per cent decrease from last June’s 38,900 applications. However, the Universities UK blueprint has advised the new Labour government that “international collaboration is a …

There is no denying the fact that the opportunities which exist in the US and Canada outpace those in these European countries by a wide margin. Despite this, some of these universities in these European nations are quite impressive and they are certainly worth exploring. These are the countries which students can explore: I. Poland: This east European nation has over 10,000 international students …
