Accused in Sulur child rape case attacked in prison

Karthi, the prime accused in the case of sexual assault and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Sulur in Coimbatore, was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Saturday (May 30, 2026) with grievous injuries after being attacked by inmates at the Central Prison in Coimbatore. Karthi was lodged in the prison after receiving treatment for fractures in his right arm and leg, which he sustained during arrest. Two days after his imprisonment, fellow prisoners attacked Karthi with objects such as spoons and plates. He has also been detained under the Goondas Act. A probe is on.
