But the domestic supply is near-normal. Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Saturday (March 14) said that he wrote to the Centre requesting additional commercial LPG cylinders. A sharp drop in the commercial LPG deliveries were recorded, from the usual requirement of 23,000 cylinders per day to roughly 6,200 cylinders. The Minister said that the domestic LPG supplies stand at near-normal levels with around 2.15 lakh cylinders delivered per day. On Friday, a little over 2.37 lakh domestic cylinders were delivered. Amul`s supplies to the Gulf market remain consistent despite the ongoing conflict in the region, according to Jayen Mehta, Managing Director of Amul. Speaking to the media on Thursday, Mehta confirmed that while the initial stages of the war caused supply disruptions and shipment delays, the central government has given priority to Amul for gas supply. “Despite the war conditions in the Gulf region, there is good news for India`s dairy industry and farmers associated with Amul. The government has given Amul priority for gas supply, allocating 80&#37 of their requirement. This ensures that all dairy plants will operate without interruption. In case of any gaps, alternative fuels like diesel, furnace oil, and briquettes will be used to keep the plants running and maintain regular milk supply to the market,” Mehta said. JOTHI RAMALINGAM Amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia and the hike in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, autorickshaw drivers in the city are worried if they will get uninterrupted gas supplies. K. Vijay, who operates an LPG-run autorickshaw, said their rides will be affected if LPG is not available. “We have a petrol tank of just three litres, which can be used only in case of emergencies, like if the vehicle runs out of gas. Otherwise, gas gives us a mileage of around 22 km/kg, which is cheaper than petrol, which gives 10-12 km per litre,” he said.
