Puram BJP MLA and accused number five in the Bikla Shiva murder case, Byrathi Basavaraj, was on Sunday (February 15, 2026) remanded into seven days of CID custody after doctors at Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research certified that he was medically fit. Basavaraj was arrested by CID officials at the Bengaluru airport arrival terminal soon after he landed from Ahmedabad, following the rejection of his bail plea by the Supreme Court on Thursday (February 12, 2026). During the mandatory medical examination at Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital after his arrest, doctors sought a cardiology opinion from Jayadeva Hospital after the MLA raised concerns about a cardiac condition. On Friday (February 13, 2026), the court had declined the CID’s request for immediate custody and directed that Basavaraj be admitted to Jayadeva Hospital under police security for a detailed cardiac evaluation.
