Suruchi Phogat, Esha Singh complete an Indian 1-2 at Munich Shooting World Cup

5 min readMay 29, 2026 11:43 PM IST In almost the repeat of the ISSF World Cup Final at Munich last year, where two Indian shooters won gold and silver in the women’s 10m air pistol, Suruchi Singh Phogat and Esha Singh made it a 1-2 finish for India this year too. Phogat claimed her fifth ISSF World Cup title with 21-year-old Esha achieving the rare feat of medals in the 25 m pistol and 10m air including the 25m world record earlier this week. Phogat has set her gun talking in a year which sees Asian Games and LA Olympics quota at the Doha World Championships. “This is my first World Cup title of the year and the starting has been good for me. I did not face any pressure (to compete against Esha for the gold),” Suruchi said. “The start was not good but after that I got the flow and settled down. I just followed my technique and it went well. It is a very important year with Asian Games and Olympic …

Double podium for Suruchi, Esha

Double podium for Suruchi, Esha

It was double delight for India on Day 4 of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Rifle/Pistol leg in Munich, as Suruchi Inder Singh struck gold and Esha Singh silver in the women’s 10m air pistol, helping them rise to the top of the medal tally. Suruchi shot 242.1 to defend the gold she won last year at the Olympic Shooting range, while her senior teammate shot 241.2 to settle for silver. Korean Choo Gaeun won bronze. India now have two gold and one silver at the year’s second ISSF World Cup leg, with the two mixed events in rifle and pistol, left to be played on Saturday. Earlier in the day, the duo just about made the final, claiming the last two qualification spots. Both shot 578, pipping the reigning Olympic champion Oh Yejin by a point. Choo topped the field with a 583, while London Olympics silver medalist Celine Goberville of France and Bulgarian Miroslava Mincheva (580), the reigning European champion and winner of the bronze medal in the 25m pistol …

Shooters Samrat Rana and Suruchi Inder Singh added to the core group of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme | Sport-others News

3 min readMar 13, 2026 06:14 PM IST After months of waiting, reigning 10m air pistol world champion Samrat Rana, 57 kg boxing world champion Jaismine Lamboria and three-time World Cup medallist shooter Suruchi Inder Singh have been inducted into the core group of Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) after the 169th meeting of the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC) on Wednesday. The Indian Express understands that their consistent performances have prompted MOC to take notice and add them to the core list, despite updating the list at the start of the year. One of the best Indian boxers on the circuit right now, Jaismine had a strong season last year with a World title and multiple other international medals. Her absence from the core group at the start of the year had raised eyebrows, similar to the absence of India’s first-ever Pistol World Champion, Samrat Rana, and one of the most consistent shooters, Suruchi. Niraj, who was previously part of TOPS, was removed at the start of last year. After winning silver in the 50m …

Asian Shooting Championship: Caught unawares by changed format, but Suruchi Phogat and Samrat Rana still manage 10m air rifle mixed team silver | Sport-others News

4 min readFeb 5, 2026 09:23 PM IST Usually when one tops the qualification stage of a mixed team event in shooting, there is an instant injection of dopamine. A first or second position in qualification means a guaranteed gold or silver medal – at least that’s what Indian shooting’s newest senior team pair of Suruchi Phogat and Samrat Rana thought. But as they entered the final hall at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range for the 10m air pistol final, the range officer explained the new format of the event to them, and suddenly both shooters, aged 19 and 21 respectively and beginning their second year with the senior team, were dealt a shock. The event was no longer a playoff versus another team, but a final featuring four teams with an initial stage of fifteen shots, followed by elimination. Forget gold or silver, there was now a possibility of no medal at all in the first international event with the new rules in place. But Phogat and Rana got their thoughts in gear …

2025: Her Year – Behind Suruchi Phogat’s rise as India’s next big thing, a ‘Chinese shooting style’ | Sport-others News

Around India’s shooting ranges, there’s been a growing buzz this year about a ‘Chinese style’ teenage shooter. It’s a nod not just to her performances — though they have been spectacular — but to a philosophy: fast, aggressive and unflinchingly clinical; the hallmark of China’s shooting dominance. At the center of this buzz is Suruchi Phogat, the 19-year-old whose ascent has been so rapid that it has left even seasoned observers scrambling for comparisons: a hat-trick of World Cup gold medals, a junior world record, and climbing to the top of the world rankings before ending the year at number 2. But she’s been turning heads not just because she wins — India has seen many wunderkinds, Saurabh Chaudhary and Manu Bhaker to name a couple. But it’s because of how she does it: with speed, composure, and a striking immunity to pressure. In a sport where patience is often preached as gospel, Suruchi operates on a different rhythm. A Pant in the sport of Pujaras. Many elite shooters favour a long, deliberate aim, holding …

The elaborate field consisted of Paris Olympic double medalist Manu Bhaker, who finished seventh overall with 137.2 points, Asian Games champion Palak Gulia, who finished fifth with 179.2 points. Suruchi Phogat failed to qualify for the final and finished 14th overall with a score of 577. Ketan struck the gold with 240.0, ahead of Meenu Pathak of Delhi, who took silver with 238.4, and Surbhi Rao, who claimed bronze with 219.5. In the Junior Women’s category, Vanshika Chaudhary from Uttar Pradesh emerged on top, edging Anjali Shekhawat by 0.2 for gold, while Palak Gulia secured bronze, and Army Marksmanship Unit’s Lakshita Bishnoi claimed the youth title after a narrow 0.6 victory over Rashmika Sahgal, with Sanskriti Bana completing the podium. The final followed an extensive qualification phase that saw over 900 shooters compete across …

ISSF World Cup Final: Suruchi Singh Phogat leads Indian 1-2 in women’s 10m air pistol event | Sport-others News

Teenager Suruchi Singh Phogat prevailed in a strong field, featuring several Olympic medallists, to win the women’s 10m air pistol title at the ISSF World Cup Final in Doha on Saturday. It was double delight for India as compatriot Sainyam Vij took the silver, ensuring there was an Indian 1-2 at the season finale. Suruchi, 19, emerged victorious against quality shooters like double Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker, Paris Olympic champion Oh Ye-jin of Korea, Tokyo Olympics mixed team champion and individual bronze medallist Jiang Ranxin and world number one Yao Qianxun of China. “She wanted to end the year on a high with a gold medal in the World Cup final and that’s what she did today,” Suruchi’s father Inder Singh Phogat told The Indian Express. The gold came after she missed out on the final at the World Championships, but the youngster made amends quickly. The Haryana shooter had won the first of her ISSF World Cup titles in Buenos Aires followed by ones in Lima and Munich. She missed the edition in Ningbo, …

ISSF World C’ships: Manu Bhaker, Suruchi to lead India’s 40-member contingent

ISSF World C’ships: Manu Bhaker, Suruchi to lead India’s 40-member contingent

India’s top shooters are ready for one of the biggest competitions of the year, the ISSF World Championships Rifle/Pistol, scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from 8 to 17 November. A 40-member Indian contingent will represent the country, featuring Olympic medalists Manu Bhaker and Swapnil Kusale, along with former world champion Rudrankksh Patil. Can India win multiple Individual golds? India has produced several world-class shooters in recent years, but translating that dominance into individual gold medals at the World Championships has been a challenge. In the men’s rifle events, India has had only two individual world champions in the last two decades, Abhinav Bindra in 2006 and Rudrankksh Patil in 2022. On the women’s side, Tejaswini Sawant remains the only Indian woman to have won an individual world title, achieving the feat back in 2010 in the 50m Rifle Prone event. This year, a new generation of shooters, including Suruchi Singh and Manu Bhaker, will aim to end the 15-year wait for another Indian woman to claim an individual gold. Meanwhile, Rudrankksh Patil, the …
