3 min readMohaliUpdated: Mar 22, 2026 11:06 PM IST The controversial proposal for mechanical sweeping of Mohali’s internal ‘C’ roads has once again been tabled for discussion in the Municipal Corporation’s House meeting scheduled for March 24. The same proposal had earlier been unanimously rejected by councillors, raising fresh questions over its reintroduction and the administrative process. According to information, the proposal originated after a review meeting held by the Local Government Department in Sector 35, Chandigarh, where directions were issued to implement mechanical sweeping of ‘C’ roads in major cities across Punjab. Proposal highlights: • Total length of ‘C’ roads: 303.44 km• Initial proposal (both sides cleaning): 606.88 km coverage • Daily cleaning target (earlier): 101.15 km• Estimated cost for 3 years (initial): ₹8.21 crore Subsequently, during technical evaluation by the Committee of Chief Engineers, the proposal was revised. The estimated cost was reduced to ₹3,91,84,380, and approval was granted for cleaning only one side of the roads instead of both. Trump on trade with India after SC ruling on sweeping tariffs| India News

US President Donald Trump said there would be no change in the United States’ trade stance toward India, asserting that the current tariff arrangement benefits Washington. US President Donald Trump has slapped an additional 25 per cent tariff on goods coming from India as penalty for New Delhi’s continued buying of Russian oil. (PTI) Stressing that the “India deal is on,” Trump described his relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “fantastic” and repeated his claims on trade with India. “Nothing changes. They’ll be paying tariffs and we will not be paying tariffs… PM Modi is a great man. He was much smarter than the people he was against in terms of the US… He was ripping us off. So we made a deal with India… We are not paying tariffs to them and they are. We did a little flip,” Trump said. Trump also addressed bilateral ties. “My relationship with India is fantastic, and we are doing trade with India. India pulled out of Russia. India was getting its oil from Russia, and they …

Supreme Court rules Trump lacked authority to impose sweeping tariffs

Supreme Court rules Trump lacked authority to impose sweeping tariffs

President Donald Trump paid a price for going it alone on tariffs, as the Supreme Court on Friday delivered a rare rebuke, ruling that he lacked the power to declare an economic emergency and impose sweeping new taxes on imports. Trump had made tariffs the bedrock of his economic pitch to voters ahead of the midterm elections, even describing tariffs as his “favourite word in the dictionary.” He promised that factories would relocate from overseas and bring jobs with them, and he warned that losing the tariffs could plunge the US into a deep recession. However, Friday’s ruling is likely to prolong political and economic uncertainty over international trade through the election year. Trump reacts strongly to court ruling Trump called the decision “a disgrace” after he was handed a note informing him of the ruling during a private meeting with several governors, according to two people familiar with his reaction who spoke on condition of anonymity. Another person briefed on the conversation said Trump remarked that he would “have to do something about these …

Syria government, Kurdish forces agree sweeping integration to end clashes

By Mahmoud Hasano and Jaidaa Taha Syria government, Kurdish forces agree sweeping integration to end clashes TABQA, – Syria and the main Kurdish fighting force struck a wide-ranging deal to bring Kurdish civilian and military authorities under central government control on Sunday, ending days of fighting in which Syrian troops captured territory including key oil fields. U.S. envoy Tom Barrack hailed a “pivotal inflection point”, but noted that there was still challenging work to be done to finalise details of a comprehensive integration deal. The terms of the deal appeared to be a major blow for the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces , which ran a semi-autonomous region in Syria’s northeast for more than a decade. The SDF, which had no immediate comment, had resisted integration into the Islamist-led government that has ruled Syria since Bashar al-Assad was toppled in late 2024. The 14-point deal published by Syria’s presidency featured the signatures of both Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and SDF head Mazloum Abdi, who appeared to have signed separately and are set to meet in Damascus …

Eternity movie review: A sweeping afterlife romance that sweetly balances whimsy and heart-aching questions about love

Cast: Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller, Callum Turner, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, John Early Director: David Freyne Rating: ★★★.5 There’s a wave of nostalgia sweeping through Hollywood — not just in the return of familiar titles from the ‘90s, but in the revival of a certain kind of filmmaking that once defined the era: glossy, high-concept studio romances with emotional stakes as grand as their premises. As audiences welcome back Scream, Clueless, and the romcom sensibility of My Best Friend’s Wedding, there’s also a renewed curiosity for films that blend fantasy with earnest sentiment. That spirit is very much alive in Eternity, David Freyne’s ambitious afterlife love story, which feels like it could have rolled out in front of a packed theatre in 1998. It’s a big swing — sentimental, witty, visually polished — and one that attempts something many filmmakers have recently shied away from: believing wholeheartedly in love. Callum Turner and Elizabeth Olsen in a still from Eternity The movie starts with Larry (Miles Teller), who dies suddenly and finds himself reborn into his youthful …
