Sam and Tom Curran’s brother Ben replaces injured Brendan Taylor in Zimbabwe’s T20 World Cup squad | Cricket News

3 min readUpdated: Feb 13, 2026 01:09 PM IST Sam Curran is no longer the only member of his family playing in the 2026 T20 World Cup, although England have not made any new additions to their squad. His brother Ben Curran will now join him in the tournament, in Zimbabwe colours. The 29-year-old Ben, who has played eight Tests and as many ODIs for Zimbabwe but is yet to make his T20I debut, has been called up after veteran wicketkeeper-batter Brendan Taylor was ruled out of the tournament. “Curran was named as a replacement when Taylor was ruled out after sustaining a right hamstring injury during the match against Oman on 9 February,” said the International Cricket Council (ICC) in a statement on Friday. Zimbabwe are placed in in Group B while England are in Group C, which means that a face off between the Curran brothers is not yet guaranteed. At the time of publishing, Zimbabwe are locked in battle with former champions Australia in their second match of the tournament. England, meanwhile, …

‘Always a dream to play in a World Cup but hope the team keeps the trophy here’: Mohammed Siraj on T20 World Cup snub | Cricket News

‘Always a dream to play in a World Cup but hope the team keeps the trophy here’: Mohammed Siraj on T20 World Cup snub | Cricket News

Mohammed Siraj was a huge part of India’s 2024 T20 World Cup win, both on the field and off it once the trophy was won. Just about a year later, he was universally hailed for his incredible performances which were central to a new-look Indian Test team drawing a five-match series 2-2 in England. However, Siraj’s appearances in limited overs cricket, particularly T20Is, have somewhat dwindled since, culminating in him missing out on the squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Siraj was not included in India’s last ODI series against South Africa. He is leading the pace battery in the ongoing one against New Zealand though and said on the eve of the decisive third ODI against the Kiwis that he was rested for the ODI series against South Africa due to the amount of overs he bowled in the preceding Test series. “I was rested in that ODI series against South Africa because I had bowled about 40 overs in the Test match before that which went the full five days,” Siraj told …

Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed included as Bangladesh announce 2026 T20 World Cup squad | Cricket News

Bangladesh have brought back pacer Taskin Ahmed and dropped Jaker Ali in their squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup. Litton Das will be leading the side and senior pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who has been caught in the middle of a storm after being released by his Indian Premier League (IPL) side Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), has also been included. Bangladesh will be looking to make it to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup for the first time this year, having failed to do so despite never missing out on any edition of the tournament. Apart from their experienced pace duo of Mustafizur and Taskin, Bangladesh will also be reliant on their spin trio of Mahedi Hasan, Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossain. Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon will added some flair to the top order but Bangladesh are expected to be largely dependent on captain Litton to provide the runs. Bangladesh are placed in Group C along with England, Italy, Nepal and the West Indies. Their first match is scheduled to be on …

What Ishan Kishan can learn from Rishabh Pant’s fate? Carry the sword, but don’t forget the shield | Cricket News

What Ishan Kishan can learn from Rishabh Pant’s fate? Carry the sword, but don’t forget the shield | Cricket News

Rishabh Pant is a compulsive risk-taker, a perpetual rollercoaster rider and an enigma who toggles between “stupid, stupid, stupid” and “superb, superb, superb”. He is a special batting talent with an uncanny knack for frustrating coaches and selectors. Recently, during the South Africa Test series that India lost, the wicket-keeper cum stand-in captain, true to his reputation, had coaches pulling their hair out after he played the kind of stroke that clearly indicated brain-fade. There were repercussions. As collateral damage, his Test misgivings resulted in him not making it to the T20 World Cup that starts at home next month. And it’s been said that his place in the ODI team too is in doubt. That’s life for batsmen living on the edge. They take calculated risks and also gamble to ace odds. These batting buccaneers keep burying the good old ethos of batting to build their own creed. That bargain comes with consequences, as Rishabh would have realised. But then he can’t help it; he is a compulsive stroke-maker. Rishabh belongs to the Cult …

Recovering Pat Cummins, Tim David, Josh Hazlewood included in Australia’s provisional T20 World Cup squad | Cricket News

The recovering trio of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David all feature in Australia’s provisional squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup that was announced on Thursday. With the tournament taking place in India and Sri Lanka, and Australia playing all their group stage matches in the latter nation, they have gone spin heavy, with Adam Zampa being joined by Matthew Kuhnemann, Cooper Connolly and all-rounders Glenn Maxwell and Matthew Short. Chairman of selectors George Bailey said that the injured players are recovering well and will be fit in time for the World Cup. “The T20 side has enjoyed a long run of recent success which enabled the panel to choose a balance of players across the variety of conditions Sri Lanka and India may present,” Bailey said. “Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David are tracking well and we are confident they will be available for the World Cup. This is a preliminary squad so should changes need to be made they will ahead of the support period.” Even though Mitchell Starc has …

Rashid Khan named captain as Afghanistan announce squad for 2026 T20 World Cup | Cricket News

Afghanistan, who managed a historic semi-final finish in the 2024 T20 World Cup, have announced Rashid Khan as their captain as they announced their side for the 2026 edition of the tournament. Left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi and all-rounder Gulbadin Naib, both of whom were not included in the Afghanistan squad for their white-ball tour of Bangladesh in October. Naveen-ul-Haq returns to the squad as well after a shoulder injury ruled him out of the Asia Cup in September, as does spinner Mujeeb-ur-Rahman. The squad is the same for their upcoming series against the West Indies, whom they host in the UAE. The three fixtures will be played on January 19, 21 and 22. Afghanistan’s run to the semi-final of the 2024 edition was among the standout stories of the tournament. On the way, they beat much higher rated oppositions in New Zealand, West Indies, Australia and Bangladesh. In the semi-final, though, they were shredded apart by South Africa, being blown away for a paltry score of 56 with Marco Jansen and Tabraiz Shamsi taking three …

Pat Cummins sets eyes on T20 World Cup in India after missing last of Ashes: ‘High risk to play back-to-back Tests’ | Cricket News

Pat Cummins sets eyes on T20 World Cup in India after missing last of Ashes: ‘High risk to play back-to-back Tests’ | Cricket News

The Melbourne Cricket Ground has been a fast bowler’s paradise on Day 1 of the fourth Ashes Test. Both Australia’s and England’s first innings were wiped out and things might have moved faster had Pat Cummins been around. However, the Australian captain said that he was pretty clear on wanting to make sure he stays fit to travel to India and Sri Lanka for the T20 World Cup earlier this year. “Feeling good, so got through Adelaide unscathed so pretty happy,” he told Channel 7 during the lunch break on the first day of the Boxing Day Test here. Cummins had missed the first two Tests of the Ashes before finally making an appearance in the third in Adelaide. “As of a few weeks ago, was still coming back from a back injury so playing back-to-back Test matches was pretty high risk. So, will cool the heels for a little bit with T20 World Cup next month,” Cummins added. Cummins took six wickets in the Adelaide Test as Australia won by 82 runs. The victory …

Uncertainty looms over 2026 T20 World Cup for injured Pat Cummins | Cricket News

Uncertainty looms over 2026 T20 World Cup for injured Pat Cummins | Cricket News

Australia Test captain Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the remaining Test matches in the Ashes but it is uncertain for now if the fast bowler will be available for the 2026 T20 World Cup as well. Cummins could play just one Test in the Ashes, the recently concluded match in Adelaide which Australia won and thus confirmed a series victory. The 35-year-old took as many as six wickets in Australia’s 82-run win, having sat the first two Tests out due to a lumbar stress reaction that he had sustained following their tour of the West Indies earlier this year. Australia head coach Andrew McDonald said that among the discussion that he will have with selectors will be about whether Cummins can be included in the squad for the T20 World Cup, which they are to name soon. “That’ll be an assessment,” McDonald said of Cummins’ T20 World Cup chances. “I’m assuming he’ll have a check-in scan at some point and gather more information around where his back is at… looking forward to the …

T20 World Cup: Rinku Singh the fall guy as India fall back on experienced stars | T20-world-cup News

A splendid Indian Premier League season has taken Sanju Samson to the Indian T20 World Cup squad, while an underwhelming campaign has cost Shubman Gill a spot in the touring party. Samson has led Rajasthan Royals from the front this season, batting at No.3 and keeping wicket. Gill, who was skipper Rohit Sharma’s opening partner in the 50-over World Cup six months ago, has had a lacklustre season after taking over the reins at Gujarat Titans. This seems to have relegated him to the reserves’ list announced alongside the 15-member probables’ squad announced by the BCCI senior selection committee on Tuesday. The T20 World Cup will be held in the Caribbean and the United States in June. Sharma had already been announced by BCCI secretary Jay Shah as the captain and Virat Kohli was expected to be part of the side. Hardik Pandya, who has had a tough time in the IPL, both on and off the field as Mumbai Indians skipper, has been named vice-captain. The selectors were keen to have a seam-bowling all-rounder …

Yuvraj Singh backs Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli for T20 World Cup but wants more ‘younger players in the mix’ | T20-world-cup News

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh backed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in India’s T20 World Cup squad for the upcoming edition. Yuvraj, named an ambassador for the tournament to be held in the USA and the West Indies from next month, said: “As you get older people start talking about your age and they forget about your form. “These guys (Rohit and Virat have been great players for India and they deserve to go (retire) when they want,” Yuvraj said. While Yuvraj, winner of the inaugural T20 World Cup, backed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for this edition, he insisted the duo must make way for youngsters post the tournament. “I would like to see more younger players in the T20 format, because it gets the load off them (experienced players) playing 50-over (ODIs) and Test matches. “After this (T20) World Cup I would like to see a lot of younger guys come into the team and make the T20 side for the next World Cup,” Yuvraj told ICC.
