Banned Yaba tablets worth Rs 4 cr, illegal liquor seized in Assam, 3 held

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said three persons have been arrested for allegedly smuggling banned Yaba tablets worth around Rs 4 crore and liquor in two separate operations by the state police. He lauded the police personnel for the successful operations. “Hidden compartments in cars won`t hide crime,” Sarma said in a post on X on Thursday. He said 80,000 Yaba tablets, worth around Rs 4 crore, were recovered from a secret chamber of a vehicle in Bagori. Two persons were arrested in this connection, Sarma said. Yaba tablets are banned in India as they contain methamphetamine, a Schedule II substance under the Controlled Substances Act. In another operation at Digorkhal in Cachar district, 81 cartons with bottles containing 819 litres of illegal Indian Made Foreign Liquor were “recovered from a hidden hold” of a vehicle, the CM said. 16 students discharged among 19 students hospitalised after consuming an excessive dose of anti-anaemia tablets without supervision. The stufdents are from a zilla parishad primary school in Bhamdeli village, located in the buffer zone of Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, Chandrapur Official said on Friday (February 13, 2026). The students were admitted on Wednesday (February 11, 2026) after consuming vitamin tablets. Maharashtra: FDA cracks down on pharmacies selling intoxicant tablets in Nanded

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cancelled the licences of 13 medical stores and suspended those of 32 in Nanded district over alleged sale of intoxicant tablets, officials have said. As part of a drive, the FDA had issued show-cause notices to 48 medical stores for selling intoxicant tablets without a doctor`s prescription and for violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, Assistant Commissioner (Drugs) AT Rathod said in a release on Wednesday. After the explanations submitted were found unsatisfactory, the licences of 32 medical stores were suspended, while the licences of 13 stores were permanently cancelled. Action has been proposed against the remaining three medical stores, it said. Assam Police seizes 90,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 26 crores from Cachar

In a major haul, police recovered and seized 90,000 Yaba tablets worth Rs 26 crore in Assam`s Cachar district on Monday, officials said. Police also apprehended two persons and recovered the drugs from the secret chamber of a truck. Partha Protim Das, Senior Superintendent of Police of Cachar district, said that, based on intelligence inputs, Cachar police conducted an anti-narcotics operation in the Rongpur area under Silchar police station on Monday. “One truck bearing registration number AS-01FC-0018 was intercepted and led to the recovery of 90000 Yaba tablets from the secret chamber of the truck,” Partha Protim Das said. He further said that, in this regard, two persons were apprehended and they were identified as Dalim Uddin Laskar and Abed Sultan Barbhuiya. “Both apprehended persons belong to the Dholai police station area. In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, East Agartala Police seized a massive consignment of 1,10,000 Yaba tablets from a hotel in the city. The raid was conducted at Woodland Park Hotel, Room No. 207, in Moth Chowmohani which led to the arrest of three individuals. During the operation, the police recovered one large trolley bag containing 11 yellow plastic packets, each filled with 10,000 Yaba tablets, Rs 1,600 in Indian currency, and three smart mobile phones. “Today, we received secret information that drug smuggling was taking place at Hotel Wooden Park. Following an apparent suicide attempt, popular playback singer Kalpana Raghavendar was found unconscious at her residence in Nizampet, Hyderabad on March 2. As reports suggested, she had taken sleeping pills, and had to be rushed to the hospital. Kalpana Raghavendar told police that she took an overdose of insomnia tablets at home as she struggled to due to conflict with her daughter over her education. According to KPHB police, for the last five years, both Kalpana Raghavendar and her husband Prasad Prabhakar have been staying at a house in Nizampet in KPHB. Going by what Kalpana told the police, a disagreement arose between her and her daughter, Daya Prasad, over her education on March 3. Kalpana wanted her daughter to study in Hyderabad, but Daya didn’t agree with it. On regaining consciousness, police told the singer that she did not attempt suicide.
