Why Rakshitha, a shuttler with a tactical mind who aces rally game, is one to watch out for

Promise 2025: As a new year begins, there is bound to be fresh hope for India’s upcoming young athletes. From a pre-teen chess player to an early teen cricketer, we take a look at who can make their mark in the coming years. The quiet state of Indian badminton in the south – Tamil Nadu – with its self-effacing players, could start roaring this season with Rithvik Sanjeevi Satish Kumar picking some clutch wins at the end of 2024. But the hidden talent that could see some breakthrough results in coming months is Coimbatore teen Rakshitha Sree Santhosh Ramraj, a rally player who’s switched gears and is learning to let it rip. She is 5 ‘6 ” at age 17, with a natural inclination to keep the rally going, but blessed with a good punch from the back-court. Encouraged by her father to start out in the sport at 9, she made the move to Hyderabad pretty early, with her mom accompanying her. It was a tough two years as Covid struck within weeks of …

How Virat Kohli Lost Tactical Battle To Josh Hazlewood, Sees Confidence Hit New Low

How Virat Kohli Lost Tactical Battle To Josh Hazlewood, Sees Confidence Hit New Low

Virat Kohli departed for just 5 runs against Australia in Perth© AFP The entire Optus Stadium in Perth cheered as India’s Virat Kohli walked out to bat against Australia on Day 1 of the first Test. Kohli, whose place in the Indian team is under question over repeated failures, was backed to rise to the occasion and deliver with the bat against the opposition he loves facing the most. Kohli even came up with a new plan to counter the threat posed by the Aussies, batting outside the crease but the move backfired. Kohli came out to bat with the intent of countering the sharp bounce available on Perth pitch by batting a little ahead of the crease. During his 12-ball stay at the crease, however, the talismanic batter looked far from comfortable. After adding just 5 runs to India’s tally, Virat fell to a tactically smart delivery from Hazlewood in the 13th over. Kohli made a debatable decision to bat well outside the crease in an attempt to negate the movement and …

Ravichandran Ashwin Confident He Has “Figured Out” Steve Smith, Shares Tactical Insight

Senior India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin says he has figured out ways to tackle Australian batting mainstay Steve Smith in the upcoming five-match Test series, extending their fascinating, decade-old rivalry in top-flight cricket. The two seasoned campaigners will face off during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy starting November 22 in Perth. They have in the past spent time together at IPL franchises Rising Pune Supergiant and Delhi Capitals, helping Ashwin to “break down the game plans” of Smith. “Steve Smith is especially fascinating as a player against spin. He has a unique technique, even playing fast bowling,” Ashwin said in an interview with ‘7Cricket’. “But with spin, I think he came in with sound game plans and sound preparations, and yeah, he used to execute it come what may. And over the years, I’ve found ways and means to break it down. “His time at Delhi Capitals, his time at RPSG, all these net sessions that I’ve seen him go about his business gave me an insight as to how he prepares and what he likes …

Rohit Sharma’s hyper-aggro batting methods didn’t pay off, tactical errors creeped into captaincy, now it’s time for introspection | Cricket News

Rohit Sharma’s hyper-aggro batting methods didn’t pay off, tactical errors creeped into captaincy, now it’s time for introspection | Cricket News

Five months ago, the Wankhede Stadium was a happier place for Rohit Sharma. In the crimson twilight of this majestic arena, he stood hoisting the World T20 trophy. He smiled throughout the evening that began with an open-roof bus parade through the Marine Drive stretch, where fervid fans chanted his name and wore his masks. He soaked in the most glorious hour of his career as World Cup-winning captain. Five months later, in one of the cruellest sporting paradoxes in Indian cricket, Wankhede made him endure his darkest hour in the sport. The fate of being the first ever Indian captain to experience a Test series whitewash at home (minimum 2 Tests). The stands were grieving, the streets were mourning. In the press-conference room, he tried to force a smile, he sought to put on a veneer of defiance, he sought the grand platitude of sports being an eternal leveller, he called for calm, he pleaded patience, he owned up the losses, he shouldered the blame and burden, yet he felt depressingly hollow. His eyes …

“Tactical Blunder”: IPL Winning Coach Tears Into Sanju Samson Over This Decision

Tom Moody slammed Sanju Samson over his “tactical blunder” against SRH.© BCCI Former Australia batter Tom Moody has slammed Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson over his “tactical blunder” in the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 clash against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday. RR crashed out of IPL 2024 after a 36-run defeat at the hands of SRH, who will now face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the final on Sunday. Chasing 176, RR could only reach 139/7 in 20 overs after Shahbaz Ahmed and Abhishek Sharma sparked a mid-innings collapse. The pair shared five wickets between them to help SRH reach the final for the first time in six years. While keeper-batter Dhruv Jurel scored a half-century for RR in the chase, Moody pointed out that Samson made a “tactical blunder” by not sending Shimron Hetmyer ahead of the youngster. “We shouldn’t be surprised because that is the trend. We shouldn’t be surprised and every single time we sit here and say that we are surprised. To me it was an absolute no-brainer. …

Rinku Singh’s exclusion from the T20 World Cup squad tactical decision, says Sourav Ganguly | Ipl News

Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly said that Rinku Singh was excluded from the 2024 T20 World Cup squad as a tactical decision and told the batter not to be disheartened. “It’s West Indies. The wickets may be slow and assist spin so they (selectors) wanted to go with another spinner. Maybe because of that Rinku didn’t get an opportunity but it’s just the beginning for Rinku,” Ganguly said at the Trophy unveiling ceremony of the Bengal Pro T20 League. The 26-year-old who has a 176-plus strike rate in 15 T20Is may have missed out as India wanted to go with an “extra spinner” keeping in mind the spinning tracks in the West Indies, Ganguly feels. India play their group stage matches in the USA, opening their campaign against Ireland on June 5. Super Eight onwards the tournament will be held in the Caribbean countries. Ganguly also said that he expected India and Australia to dominate the tournament as they did in the 50-over World Cup last year. “India and Australia the two best teams of …

On Rishabh Pant’s Tactical Blunder In Powerplay, Delhi Capitals Coach’s Clarification

Delhi Capitals (DC) assistant coach Pravin Amre justified his team’s decision to use Lalit Yadav in the powerplay during a clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Saturday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. An all-round SRH overcame a scare from Jake Fraser McGurk and secured a 67-run win over DC in the IPL 2024. SRH’s opening pair Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head with their extravagant batting carnage from smoked Lalit in the first over of the game, gathering 21 runs with the help of two boundaries and 2 maximums. Delhi captain Rishabh Pant gave Lalit the ball to bowl another over during the powerplay, and the off-spinner conceded 20 runs in the fourth over as SRH raced to 83 for no loss in only four overs. In the fourth over, Abhishek struck Lalit Yadav for two sixes and Head hit him for one six. Lalit Yadav did not bowl another over in the game, finishing with no wickets and 41 runs in two overs. The DC coach claimed that …

“Where Is Jasprit Bumrah?”: Kevin Pietersen, Sunil Gavaskar Blast Hardik Pandya For Tactical Decision

Former England cricket team batter Kevin Pietersen and legendary India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar were extremely critical of Hardik Pandya‘s decision to bowl the first over during the match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans in IPL 2024 on Sunday. The MI skipper decided to start proceedings with the new ball instead of choosing star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah – a choice that led to a lot of discussion in the commentary box. Things got worse as Hardik was taken to be the cleaners by GT openers Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha with the all-rounder conceding 20 runs in his first six deliveries. “Why Jasprit Bumrah is not opening the bowling? I don’t understand this,” Pietersen remarked. “Very good question. Very, very good question,” Gavaskar replied on commentary. Even Irfan Pathan took to social media to have his say on the matter. “Where is Bumrah?” he posted on X (formerly known as Twitter). Where is Bumrah? — Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan) March 24, 2024 Gujarat went on to score 169 runs with the bat, a decent total …

“Tactical Error”: Ex-India Star Questions Rohit Sharma’s Captaincy With “Ravichandran Ashwin” Reference

Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar has questioned captain Rohit Sharma’s tactics during Day 2 of the ongoing third Test against England in Rajkot. Manjrekar wasn’t pleased with Rohit’s usage of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja as the fourth and fifth options during England’s first innings on Friday. Riding on Ben Duckett’s quickfire knock, England got off to a fiery start in response of India’s 445 in the first innings. Rohit introduced Ashwin in the 12th over after Duckett had completed his half-century in 39-balls. Ashwin struck in his second over, dismissing Zak Crawley for 15. However, he failed to trouble Duckett, who was already well set. After stumps on Day 2, Ashwin said that he would’ve liked to bowl to Duckett when he wasn’t set. Duckett took the game to Kuldeep Yadav, sweeping and reverse sweeping the spinner to all parts of the ground. Manjrekar questioned Rohit for bowling Kuldeep ahead of Ashwin, labelling it “as an error in judgement” from the Indian captain. “I didn’t understand that move. I thought it was …
