Japan vs China: Takaichi softens after G20 snub but Xi busts Tokyo’s lies, issues ‘war’ warning?

Japan vs China: Takaichi softens after G20 snub but Xi busts Tokyo’s lies, issues ‘war’ warning?

Published on Nov 25, 2025 06:25 am IST China has sharply condemned Japan’s plan to deploy medium‑range surface‑to‑air missiles on Yonaguni Island, just about 110 km from Taiwan, calling the move “extremely dangerous” and accusing Tokyo of stoking militarism and regional confrontation. Beijing’s foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning warned that Japanese “right‑wing forces” are trying to break free of the post‑war Peace Constitution and push the country “down the path of militarism,” and said Tokyo’s actions risk disaster for the region. She also linked the row to Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s recent comments suggesting a Taiwan contingency could trigger Japanese military involvement, arguing that such “erroneous” remarks undermine the basis for China–Japan–South Korea trilateral cooperation and hollow out Japan’s stated adherence to the One‑China policy.   News / Videos / Japan vs China: Takaichi softens after G20 snub but Xi busts Tokyo’s lies, issues ‘war’ warning? Her brand of politics, combining Abe’s strategic foresight with her own assertive flair, marks a crucial moment for Japan on the world stage. Takaichi’s rise to power has already broken new ground. She is Japan’s first female prime minister and a longtime conservative who admires Margaret Thatcher. Like Abe, she champions a strong Japan on the global stage, but Takaichi is even more unabashed in pursuing that goal. Upon taking office in October, she ended the Liberal Democratic Party’s 26-year alliance with the cautious Komeito party and forged a new ruling coalition with the hawkish Japan Innovation Party (Ishin). This realignment freed her …
