Grill of bridge, declared unsafe, collapses in Pune’s Mulshi taluka | Pune News

2 min readPuneJul 8, 2026 09:50 PM IST The protective grill of a bridge connecting Hotale village and Girivan to the Kolwan-Paud road in Mulshi taluka has collapsed due to heavy rain in the past two days, making the route dangerous for vehicles. The grill had already been heavily damaged around 10 days ago due to a vehicle crashing into it. Further, the bridge itself has been declared unsafe for four-wheelers and heavy vehicles by the gram panchayat since the past few years and a warning board has been installed at the bridge. Dhanashree Palkar, gram panchayat sarpanch, said, “The grill was damaged in an accident 10-12 days ago and completely got swept away due to the rain in the last two days. The bridge itself is dangerous for heavy vehicles and we have requested the government for a completely new bridge.” She added that construction work in Girivan, a private hill station with multiple properties and bungalows, leads to heavy vehicles plying on the bridge. In a joint enforcement action against illegal cultivation of banned fish species, officials from the Fisheries Department and Uruli Kanchan Police seized and destroyed nearly 3,500 kg of prohibited African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) from a farm pond in Peth Naigaon village of Haveli taluka in Pune district on Thursday. The operation was carried out after authorities received information about the unauthorised breeding and rearing of the banned exotic fish species. Acting on the tip-off, a joint team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Fisheries, Pune, along with personnel from Uruli Kanchan Police Station, conducted a raid at the site. Thirteen Phipson’s shieldtail snakes were found by wildlife enthusiast Omkar Dhore while cleaning a small polyhouse, a type of greenhouse where a specialised polythene sheet is used as a covering material, in Vadgaon, Maval taluka, Pune district, on February 4. Dhore informed Jigar Solanki, a member of the Wildlife Rescuer of Maval organisation, on noticing movement on the floor of the polyhouse. Upon searching a small area of about three to four feet in a corner, the snakes were found one after another. Such a discovery is considered a rare occurrence. According to wildlife experts, the Phipson’s shieldtail, a fossorial, burrowing snake of the Western ghats, spends most of its life underground, coming to the surface mainly during heavy rain, flooding of burrows, or when disturbed by digging or construction activity in the area. A FIVE-YEAR-OLD girl was allegedly kidnapped from her home in Maval taluka of Pune district, was sexually assaulted and brutally strangled to death by a man living in the same neighbourhood and known to the victim’s family, the Pimpri Chinchwad police said. Police have arrested the 32-year-old suspect in the early hours of Sunday. A case in this regard was registered at a police station under the Pimpri Chinchwad police jurisdiction. “Both parents of the girl were at work on Saturday evening. In the night, when the mother returned home, she found that the girl was nowhere to be seen. The family searched for her in the area but she could not be found. Late in the night on Saturday, around 11.30 pm, the family approached the police and reported the girl missing.” said an officer from the police station. “Since it was a case of a minor girl missing, a kidnapping case was registered. Telugu film Andhra King Taluka collected Rs. 14.75 crore in its four-day extended weekend in India. The Ram Pothineni starrer had a dismal opening day and then didn’t make any inroads with the trend, with minimal growth over the weekend. The word of mouth for the film appeared to be decent, but that didn’t really seem to have helped. The film grossed another USD 550K (Rs. 5 crore) overseas, most of it from the United States, for a worldwide weekend of just under Rs. 20 crore.
