The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay comfortably won the trust vote in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly on Wednesday, securing support from alliance partners as well as a section of rebel AIADMK legislators. The confidence motion received support from 144 MLAs, while 22 members voted against it. Five MLAs chose to remain neutral during the proceedings. Speaker JCD Prabhakar announced the results after division-wise voting in the House. The victory strengthens Vijay’s position just days after the actor-turned-politician assumed office as chief minister following the Assembly elections. DMK stages walkout before voting The main opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam staged a walkout ahead of the voting process, reducing the effective strength of the House during the floor test. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday took oath as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) during the first session of the newly constituted Tamil Nadu Assembly in Chennai following the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) landmark electoral victory. The oath was administered by Pro-Tem Speaker M V Karuppaiah at the Assembly session held at the Secretariat. Assembly proceedings for the oath-taking ceremony began at 9.30 am with a formal introduction by the Pro-Tem Speaker. Vijay was the first legislator to take oath, followed by members of his cabinet and newly elected MLAs from various political parties. Among the ministers who took oath were N Anand and Aadhav Arjuna. Ganesan. Assembly Speaker M. Appavu, who read out the obituary references, said Panneerselvam was elected from Tindivanam Assembly constituency in 1991 election. L. Ganesan was elected from Orathanadu Assembly constituency. He also represented the DMK in Rajya Sabha. He was also a member of the Legislative Council. Later he joined the MDMK launched by Vaiko and was elected to the Lok Sabha.
