Strict cognisance has been taken of the matter and action has been initiated to protect the academic interests of the affected students, a statement issued by the board here on Friday said. Board Chairman Rajesh Sharma said that the alleged tampering took place at the examination centre of Government Senior Secondary School, Jhandutta, in the Bilaspur district. A total of 40 students had appeared for the examination at the centre, including 11 students from Government High School, Jeora. The matter surfaced after nine students appearing in the Arts stream subject (Sub Art-A) submitted a written complaint to the board, alleging manipulation in the multiple choice questions (MCQ) section of their answer sheets. Jeevaraj, the newly-declared MLA from Sringeri assembly constituency, for allegedly tampering with postal ballot papers and documents related to counting of votes. A vacation bench of Justice V. Srisananda passed the interim order on the petition filed by Mr. Jeevaraj, who had challenged the FIR registered by Chikkamagaluru Town Police against him, former Deputy Commissioner K.N. Ramesh, former Returning Officer (RO) Vedamurthy and others on the charge of tampering with postal ballot papers, among other offences. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued several directives to presiding officers at polling booths, particularly linked to tampering with the candidate buttons, sources in the poll panel said. Birbhum: Officials stack Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines. (PTI) The poll panel has asked officers to ensure that the candidate buttons are clearly visible and not covered with tape, glue or any other material. The ECI has also said that chemicals, including colour, ink or perfume cannot be used on the buttons to reveal the secrecy of the votes, adding that such incidents can be considered as EVM tampering.
