The Four Eyes that keep Satwik & Chirag on the right track

The Four Eyes that keep Satwik & Chirag on the right track

The day Satwik-Chirag defeated World No 1s Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho on way to the Singapore Open Super 750 title, silent preparations were ongoing in Hyderabad and Mumbai, and wherever Mathias Boe was hunched over his laptop. The backroom analysis focused on how to prepare for the same Koreans the next time. Defeated in straight games, Seo-Kim are expected to hit the drawing board with Korean doubles great and legendary coach Park Joo-bong, and ensure Seo would figure ways to foil the strategy of being pushed to the back-court by the Indians. Team Satwik-Chirag was readying to counter these counter-strikes. ‘Four eyes see better than two,’ went Matthias Boe’s announcement on Instagram of “secret” intelligence-sharing that has admittedly happened behind the scenes. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty and their Malaysian coach Tan Kim Her have all been in cahoots with Boe for a month now, plotting against the best names in men’s doubles from Korea, Indonesia, China, Taiwan and Malaysia. All England Badminton: Satwik-Chirag go down in straight games to teenage Malaysians | Badminton News

India will have a special place in the careers of teenagers Aaron Tai-Kang Khai Xing. At the end of 2025, having graduated to the senior circuit after winning the Junior World Championships gold in 2024, the 19-year-olds went on a stirring run of three finals in three tournaments. They won the titles at the Syed Modi International in Lucknow and Guwahati Masters before losing at the Odisha Masters. It signalled that they were ready to make the transition; on Wednesday at the All England Open, they well and truly signalled their arrival among the men’s doubles elite, and it was an Indian pair at the receiving end. Fourth seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were stunned in straight games in the first round as Aaron-Khai Xing prevailed 23-21, 21-12 in 42 minutes. “We can’t guarantee a win, but we promise we will fight. We want to know where we stand against top 10 players,” Khai Xing was quoted as saying by The Star before the tournament. And fight they did, restricting Satwik-Chirag’s attacking prowess with …

India to play Japan in Asian Mixed Team quarters starting 7 a.m | Badminton News

India might’ve finished second in Group D of the Badminton Asia Mixed Team championship at Qingdao Conson Sports Centre, after going down 3-2 to Korea that landed them a face off against Japan in the quarterfinals. But they have one eye on the bigger Trophy – the Sudirman Cup later this summer, and might not mind a spot of experimenting, essentially what most teams do at the Asian team events. Missing out on PV Sindhu was forced on them by a hamstring niggle, but shuffling the men’s doubles arsenal – was a choice. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and MR Arjun lost on Thursday to Jin Yong – Na Sung Seung 25-23, 21-14. But splitting the top pair gave Chirag Shetty some rest ahead of what will be a must-win against Japan. Shetty had reunited with his first partner, Arjun, to drub Macau, but was rested on Thursday. “Chirag needed rest and he will be ready for the big quarters tomorrow,” informed BAI secretary Sanjay Mishra. “In fact we thought all of Lakshya, Prannoy and Chirag could do …

Malaysian coach Tan Kim Her, who first brought together India’s celebrated pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, returns to India taking charge of the doubles teams. Coach Tan reached Hyderabad Sunday night, Satwik confirmed on the sidelines of Go Sports Awards in Mumbai. Tan replaces Danish Mathias Boe who took the Indians to the pinnacle of world rankings and helped them win the Asian Games gold ad Thomas Cup besides Indonesian Open, but twice faced disappointment at Olympics, 2024 being severely soul-crushing. While Boe fired up their rise to Top 5 and helped pick a World’s bronze, the current No 9 pair will aim for All England and the World Championship in coming years, guided by the Malaysian. It is a highly anticipated reunion, given it was the Malaysian’s brainwave to link up the two tall shuttlers, who ahead of the Rio Olympics in 2016 played with different partners – Satwik with Krishna Prasad Garaga and Chirag with MR Arjun. But Tan saw immediate potential in the two even while they were playing against …

The news that Malaysian coach Tan Kim Her, known for creating the pairing of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, is set to return as the pair’s coach has been making the rounds for the past couple of days. As reported by TOI, the Malaysian is expected to return to the country as the coach of Satwik/Chirag and will also guide the other doubles pairs in the country. Tan was India’s doubles coach from 2015 to 2019 before putting in his papers due to personal reasons. The pair has yet to return to action at the BWF World Circuit after their quarter-final loss at the 2024 Paris Olympics, as Satwik is recovering from an injury. However, the Badminton Association of India took to social media on Friday to dismiss the news as premature, and the contract sent to Tan Kim Her has yet to be accepted.
