0/3 in 2 overs: Australia off to record poor start to an ODI as Bangladesh run riot | Cricket News

3 min readUpdated: Jun 11, 2026 12:40 PM IST Australia won the toss and chose to bat in their second ODI against Bangladesh in Mirpur but they were possibly regretting that decision soon thereafter as they found themselves down three wickets for no runs at the end of the second over. It marks the first time in their 55-year history of playing men’s ODIs that Australia have lost their first three wickets for no runs. Taskin Ahmed bowled the first over and dismissed Matthew Short for the opening wicket off the fourth ball. It was a back of a length delivery outside off that Short chose to leave. However, the ball sharply came back in and smashed into the off stump. For the first time in their ODI history, Australia lose three wickets for no runs. Sensational start from Bangladesh in Dhaka. It’s also only the fourth instance of a team slipping to 0/3 in all men’s ODIs.#BANvsAUS — Lalith Kalidas (@lal__kal) June 11, 2026 Senior fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman shared new ball duties with …

‘Upbeat’ Bangladesh captain Shanto confident about home-like conditions to help his team against India in Champions Trophy | Cricket News

‘Upbeat’ Bangladesh captain Shanto confident about home-like conditions to help his team against India in Champions Trophy | Cricket News

On Wednesday as Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto sat for his first media briefing ahead of the Champions Trophy, he spent almost half it answering about their pacers. Out of those a majority were around Nahid Rana, their first 150kmph fast bowler, whose workload is the single most topic of discussion among cricket nerds back home. Shanto would give assurance that Rana is as excited and waiting to have a go against India’s top-order. But not until they saw Rana at the ICC Academy nets did there was a collective sigh of relief. Of the eight teams in the Champions Trophy that also includes Afghanistan, which is making its maiden appearance in the tournament, it is Bangladesh that start as rank outsiders. Ranked No 9 in the rankings, they just sneaked into the tournament on the expense of Sri Lanka via better run-rate at the 2023 World Cup. For the first time since 2007, Bangladesh have arrived for an ICC event sans Shakib Al Hasan, their estranged hero who was not so long ago the …

Afghanistan ride on Allah Ghazanfar’s 6-fer to trigger monumental Bangladesh collapse, win 1st ODI – India TV

Image Source : ACBOFFICIALS X Allah Ghazanfar missed his hat-trick but picked up three wickets in an over on the way to a magnificent six-wicket haul Bangladesh botched up a rather straightforward run-chase horribly to end up conceding the first ODI of the three-match series against Afghanistan in Sharjah on Wednesday, November 6. Bangladesh went from 120/2 to 143 all-out, losing their last eight wickets for just 23 runs to bottle what was looking like a comfortable situation they were in, chasing a modest total of 235 runs. Allah Ghazanfar was the star of the show for the Afghans, registering the second-best-ever figures for Afghanistan in ODIs, taking 6/26. The partnership had crossed 50, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto was heading towards his half-century, Mehidy Hasan had started to get going and it looked hunky-dory for Bangladesh until it wasn’t. Bangladesh had lost an early wicket but Soumya Sarkar and Shanto had repaired the innings beautifully. However, nothing of it mattered really as Ghazanfar was in a demolition mood and some. It all began with Mohammad Nabi, …

Najmul Hossain Shanto To Continue As Bangladesh Captain For Upcoming ODI Series vs Afghanistan

Najmul Hossain Shanto To Continue As Bangladesh Captain For Upcoming ODI Series vs Afghanistan

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has named Najmul Hossain Shanto as captain for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sharjah next week, in a shakeup following Shanto’s request to step down from all-format captaincy. The decision came after a discussion between Shanto and BCB president Faruque Ahmed on Thursday following Bangladesh’s recent Test in Chattogram. Though Shanto will lead the squad against Afghanistan, the BCB has yet to announce a long-term decision on his captaincy or the squad for the West Indies tour later in November, where Bangladesh will play two Tests, three ODIs, and three T20Is. As Shanto’s vice-captain for the Afghanistan series, Mehidy Hasan Miraz is seen as a leading candidate for future captaincy, with Taskin Ahmed also considered a strong option. Both players are in the ODI squad for the Afghanistan series and have shown leadership potential. Taskin, with his pace and experience, has been a mainstay in Bangladesh’s bowling attack, while Miraz’s all-round abilities make him a versatile asset. The 22-year-old uncapped pacer Nahid Rana is set …

With “Best In The World” Praise For India, Bangladesh Star’s Blunt Admission For Own Team

With “Best In The World” Praise For India, Bangladesh Star’s Blunt Admission For Own Team

Indian players are the best in the world and can bat well in any conditions, said Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed while conceding that batting frailties have let down the visitors in the T20I series, which the hosts lead 2-0 with one match left to play. Bangladesh face a potential series whitewash after losing the second T20I by 86 runs, having lost the first match by 7 wickets. “(There is) no doubt that they are (the) best in the world, not only in their (home) conditions but all over the world. They are more experienced and better players than us,” Taskin told the media on Wednesday. The pace trio of Taskin, Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Mustafizur Rahman outfoxed the Indian top order inside the powerplay, putting Bangladesh in a strong position. However, the spinners couldn’t maintain that advantage, allowing the pair of Nitish Kumar Reddy and Rinku Singh to rescue the hosts and get to a formidable total of 221/9. “In the powerplay, we did well, but they batted well in the end and …

India vs Bangladesh: We don’t have that habit of scoring big runs and that is reality, says Taskin Ahmed | Cricket News

India vs Bangladesh: We don’t have that habit of scoring big runs and that is reality, says Taskin Ahmed | Cricket News

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain after their loss in Gwalior had said that “their batters don’t know how to score 180 runs” and on Wednesday, Taskin Ahmed repeated the inability to come up with good totals is because they are not accustomed of playing on good pitches at home. “They score 180 to 200 runs regularly. For us that is 130-40 at home,” Taskin told reporters after Bangladesh lost the second match by 86 runs. “We don’t have that habit of scoring big runs and that is reality. Hopefully, in the coming days, our home condition will get better and at that point, we can chase big runs and defend as well. “At the same time if we can play different franchise leagues we will have better experience. Our cricket will develop when the structure of our domestic cricket is strong.” Taskin was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh as he returned with the bowling figures of 2 for 16. The costly drop Taskin Ahmed has said the team paid the price for dropping Nitish …

Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s Five Wickets Give Bangladesh Second Test Edge Over Pakistan

Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz grabbed five wickets to help Bangladesh skittle Pakistan for 274 on the second day of the second Test in Rawalpindi on Saturday. The 26-year-old recorded his 10th five-wicket haul in Tests to cap a good day for the tourists, who are looking to win only their third away series. Bangladesh finished the day on 10-0 despite opener Shadman Islam being dropped by Saud Shakeel off Mir Hamza on the first ball of the innings. But it was Bangladesh’s bowlers who steered them to a strong position. Mehidy dismissed Pakistan captain Shan Masood for 57 and opener Saim Ayub for 58 after the home team had been well-placed on 99-1 at lunch. He produced match-turning figures of 4-21 in Bangladesh’s 10-wicket win in the first Test a week ago, and snared Khurram Shahzad for 12 and then Mohammad Ali and Abrar Ahmed to end the innings with 5-61. Mehidy was ably assisted by fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, who took 3-57. Agha Salman, dropped on nought by Zakir Hasan off Shakib …

Injured Taskin Ahmed Receives Surprise Call-Up To Bangladesh T20 World Cup Squad

Despite nursing a side strain, pacer Taskin Ahmed was on Tuesday included in Bangladesh’s squad for the T20 World Cup to be held in the Americas next month. Ahmed, who has also been named the vice-captain, picked up the injury ahead of the fifth T20I against Zimbabwe last week. But before that the 29-year-old had a great outing in the series, bagging eight wickets in four games at an impressive economy rate of 4.56. The Tigers will be led by Najmul Hossain Shanto, as all the familiar and experienced players have been included in the squad of 15. Opener Litton Das too has been named in the squad despite his poor recent form. Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is the senior-most player in the squad, having featured in every event since its inception in 2007. Bangladesh will start their campaign against Sri Lanka on June 7 in Dallas, Texas. They have been clubbed in Group D, which also has South Africa, Netherlands and Nepal. It will be their ninth straight appearance in the tournament, qualifying …
