Tamil Nadu’s pollution control authority had warned Tata of a forced shutdown unless it explained why government inspections found that wastewater discharge had contaminated open wells in adjacent agricultural lands, Reuters reported on Saturday (June 13). On Tuesday (June 16), Tata told Reuters in a statement that the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board had confirmed that the company “has satisfactorily addressed all queries mentioned” in the warning notice and “dropped any further course of action on this issue”. The Tamil Nadu State pollution control board did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment. Apple also did not respond to a request for comment.
