The Hyderabad Metro Rail will now be extended to northern Hyderabad — a long pending demand from residents of Secunderabad and beyond — as Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed the Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML) to prepare detailed project reports for the same. HAML managing director N V S Reddy Wednesday said Chief Minister Reddy had decided to extend the Metro to Medchal and Shameerpet as a ‘new year gift’ to the people of northern Hyderabad. Hyderabad Metro operates 69 km in three corridors, namely Miyapur-LB Nagar, Jubilee Bus Station-MGBS, and Nagole-Raidurg. As part of the proposed Phase 2 expansion, another five corridors are planned between Nagole-Chandrayangutta-RGIA (36.6 km), Raidurg-Kokapet Neopolis (11.6 km), MGBS-Chandrayangutta (7.5 km), Miyapur-Patancheru (13.4 km), and LB Nagar-Hayat Nagar (7.1 km). Further, an RGIA-Fourth City corridor is proposed to be 40 km long.
