The development comes despite the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerging as a strong force in the corporation, prompting the party to announce that it will sit in the opposition. Addressing a media conference, BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind thanked voters for supporting the party and highlighted its electoral performance. “Thanks to the people of Nizamabad who voted for the BJP. The BJP has won 28 seats. In Nizamabad Corporation, we will remain in the opposition,” he said. Telangana Municipal Polls 2026 LIVE: Counting of vote begins

Counting of votes polled in Telangana Municipal elections-2026 began at 8.00 a.m. on Friday (February 13, 2026) | Photo Credit: Mohd Arif In a few hours, people in 116 Municipalities and seven Municipal Corporations will know who is elected as their Councillor or Corporator as the counting of votes polled in the Telangana Municipal Elections-2026, began at 8.00 a.m. on Friday (February 13, 2026). While 52,17,413 were eligible to vote, 38,09,406 people exercised their franchise in the elections on Wednesday (February 11, 2026), recording 73.01% voter turnout. The polls were held in 2,569 Wards in 116 Municipalities and 412 Wards in seven Municipal Corporations.  Initially, postal ballots will be counted, followed by regular ballot papers counting.
