File | Photo Credit: GIRI KVS Traffic challans in Telangana will now be served through text messages (SMS), WhatsApp messages and e-mails. The Transport, Roads and Buildings Department has notified that challans issued under Rule 167(1) or Rule 167(2) of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, may be served through electronic means. According to the order, the notification follows amendments made earlier this year by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. The government stated that all vehicle owners are required to update their mobile phone numbers and e-mail addresses on the VAHAN portal within one month from the date of publication of the notification. After the expiry of the one-month period, any challan sent electronically through these three modes to the contact details recorded on the VAHAN portal shall be deemed to have been duly served on the vehicle owner, the notification stated. …
