The Telangana High Court suspended a government memo that hiked the ticket fares of Prabhas-starrer The Raja Saab, which was released on Friday, saying that “issuing orders in this manner is nothing but a wilful violation and contempt of court orders”. The January 8 memo was issued late Thursday evening by the special chief secretary (home department) in relaxation of rules/guidelines specified in a 2021 government order (GO). On Friday, Justice N V Shravan Kumar, while hearing a lunch motion petition challenging the decision to hike ticket fares, expressed strong displeasure at the authorities for doing so in a blatant and repeated violation of the court orders regarding movie ticket fares. Advocate Vijay Gopal, representing the petitioner, submitted that authorities were routinely increasing the ticket fares whenever a big-budget movie was released, in violation of established norms. Only last month, the high court had suspended a similar government memo issuing hiked ticket fares for N Balakrishna-starrer Akhanda 2.
