India vs South Africa 2025 1st Test Preview: Temba Bavuma’s men eye historic win amid spin challenge | Cricket News

His eyelids flickering furiously, Temba Bavuma remembers a rendezvous with Kane Williamson at an award function in Mumbai two months ago. “I tried to ask him for some pointers (about winning in India). He wasn’t too open…” he recounts. Williamson was the wrong person, because an untimely groin strain had robbed him of the historic moment last year, when New Zealand blanked India 3-0. But the worldly-wise Kiwi talisman offered a simple piece of advice: “Make sure that you win the toss.” Since then, the South Africa captain, wearing a devilishly deadpan face, says he has been “practising my coin tossing skills.” The room roared and rolled in laughter. A favourable coin flip is among the several variables that make the longest format intriguing. “But…” he says, leaving the humour aside, “I think it is about playing good cricket. It is as easy as that, but it is hard.” In his third Test tour to India, Bavuma is well acquainted with the layered devils of the subcontinent. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma joked that he …

India vs South Africa: Temba Bavuma’s WTC champs get set for their hardest challenge | Cricket News

India vs South Africa: Temba Bavuma’s WTC champs get set for their hardest challenge | Cricket News

Expeditions to the subcontinent seem longer than they actually are for visiting sides. South Africa, on the foothills of their 37-day trek in India, had spent 32 days in Pakistan, by the end of which they were utterly spent. Usually, the heat hits them first; mercifully, it’s late autumn in the eastern neck of India, where the visitors complete their Test engagements. But the humidity would be draining. Dust and congestion would vex them; gun-toting commandos would flank them, as they were in Pakistan, for coach Shukri Conrad to irritatingly quip: “You come here and all you ever see is armoured vehicles to and from the ground, and you stay in a hotel all day.” Or for batsman Tony de Zorzi to say, sighing: “You have to sleep a bit longer to make your days a bit shorter.” These are the challenges they would encounter even before they had stepped onto the cricket field. Before the thoroughbred pace pair of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah begin to hum their new-ball duet, before the dexterous spin …

South Africa ‘better poised’ for India Tests with spin battery, says captain Temba Bavuma; ‘A massive opportunity’ | Cricket News

South Africa ‘better poised’ for India Tests with spin battery, says captain Temba Bavuma; ‘A massive opportunity’ | Cricket News

Test series between India in South Africa have been dominated by the hosts more often than not. India have never managed to beat South Africa in the latter’s home, with their best results being two drawn series in 2010/11 and in the last series played between the two sides in 2023/24. South Africa, meanwhile have managed to win once (1999/00) and draw twice (2007/08, 2009/10) in India but have not won a single Test match in the country since February 2010. Captain Temba Bavuma has said that while the task remains difficult, his side may be better poised to take India on at their home due to the quality spinners they have in their squad. The two-Test series between India and South Africa starts on November 14 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The second match will be played from November 22 in Guwahati. The experienced Keshav Maharaj will be part of the touring party, alongwith Senuran Muthuswamy and Simon Harmer. They also have a part-time spinner in Tristan Stubbs. “Bowling has always been a …

South Africa Test squad for India tour: Temba Bavuma returns as captain of 15-man team | Cricket News

South Africa Test captain Temba Bavuma will mark a return to lead the Test squad after a brief injury lay-off for the two-match series against India, starting November 14. After leading the Proteas to the ICC World Test Championship title in June, Bavuma had missed the recent Test series against Pakistan due to a left calf strain. In his absence, Aiden Markram took over the reins of the Test side in a series that ended 1-1 in Rawalpindi last week. Before the Test series in India, which begins at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 14, Bavuma is also slated to receive game time during the South Africa A tour of India. The SA-A side will play two First-Class games against India A, starting October 30, at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Prenelan Subreyan and David Bedingham, who were part of the squad for the Pakistan tour, were dropped from the side. Veteran bowlers Simon Harmer, Keshav Maharaj and Senuran Muthusamy are the frontline spinners in the squad. Kagiso Rabada helms the …

Suryakumar lit the Wankhede with his swashbuckling 73* to turn the tide in favour of the hosts as Mumbai drubbed Delhi with a commanding 59-run triumph to blaze their way to the final spot in the playoffs at the expense of the Capitals. The 34-year-old’s match-defining effort was his 13th 25-plus consecutive score in the T20s, taking him level with South Africa Test captain Temba Bavuma’s tally for the elusive milestone and powered Mumbai to a daunting 180/5. While the 34-year-old relished success, Delhi, on the other hand, became the first team to fail to punch its ticket for the playoffs after scoring four victories on the trot at the beginning of an IPL season. Mumbai pulled the plug on DC’s winning streak, and on …

“Execution Will be Crucial” Temba Bavuma on Proteas’s Game Plan Ahead of New Zealand Clash

“Execution Will be Crucial” Temba Bavuma on Proteas’s Game Plan Ahead of New Zealand Clash

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has acknowledged Kane Williamson’s impact ahead of their ICC Champions Trophy semi-finals on March 05. However, he said his team had planned strategies to counter New Zealand’s Kane Williamson. Kane Williamson scored 81 runs in their side’s defeat against India in the final match of the group stage. He has been in fine form against South Africa after hitting consecutive centuries, including an unbeaten 133 in Lahore last month during the tri-nation series. “Yes, he (Williamson) has been a challenge for us, and we have specific plans in place. The key will be to raise our intensity when he comes to bat,” Bavuma said. “However, execution will be crucial in the end.” Despite New Zealand’s loss against India, Temba Bavuma dismissed any notion that it would dent their confidence. IT’S SEMI-FINAL TIME! 🇿🇦 The Proteas are just one step away from the #ChampionsTrophy final, but first, it’s a showdown against New Zealand! 🏏#WozaNawe and rally behind the green and gold — history is calling! 🏆💪 Let’s go, Proteas! 🇿🇦💛💚 #WozaNawe …

WATCH: Pakistan fielders celebrate wildly in front of Temba Bavuma after his dismissal | Cricket News

The Pakistan vs South Africa ODI match witnessed a rather uncomfortable moment when the Men in Green players celebrated a little too wildly in front of Proteas captain Temba Bavuma after he was dismissed for 82 runs. It happened in the 29th over of the South African innings when Bavuma had a mix-up with Matthew Breetzke in the middle and was run out off a direct throw from Saud Shakeel. Bavuma was walking back but he had to stop when Kamran Ghulam ran right in front of him to celebrate and was joined by Shakeel and Agha Salman. The players would ultimately move out of the way and Bavuma would make his way back but the umpires took a note of the wild celebrations and had a lengthy chat with Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan. Speaking about the match, Breetzke and Heinrich Klaasen scored 83 and 87 respectively as South Africa posted 352/5 against the hosts at Karachi. Shaheen Shah Afridi was the pick of the bowlers, snapping up 2 wickets. Direct hit and there’s the …
