How xAI, Tesla, X, Neuralink, and SpaceX Are Converging

How xAI, Tesla, X, Neuralink, and SpaceX Are Converging

Elon Musk’s AI ambitions now stretch from chatbots and social feeds to robotaxis, brain implants, humanoid robots, and spacecraft. At the center is xAI, the company behind Grok. Around it sit X, Tesla, Neuralink, and SpaceX: separate businesses with very different products, but increasingly overlapping needs for data, compute, robotics, autonomy, and real-time decision-making. The result is an AI ecosystem that spans digital platforms, physical machines, and communication networks. While most AI companies focus on models and software, Musk’s portfolio extends into transportation, robotics, neuroscience, and aerospace. The bigger question is whether those ventures can reinforce one another, creating advantages that competitors struggle to match. xAI is becoming the center of gravity Musk launched xAI in 2023 as a direct challenge to OpenAI, the company he helped co-found and later criticized. Its flagship product, Grok, is now positioned as a general-purpose AI assistant for consumers, developers, and enterprise users. The company’s pitch is not subtle. xAI describes its models as capable of reasoning, coding, voice, images, and video, and says they are trained on what …

Recently, videos of the actor driving a Tesla Cybertruck in Mumbai went viral on social media. A Tesla Cybertruck is a rare sight on Indian streets. Tesla flags low maintenance and fuel costs to woo Indian buyers

Tesla is also gradually rolling out its supercharger network in India starting with Mumbai, Delhi and Gurugram [File] | Photo Credit: REUTERS Tesla’s low running costs, including maintenance and fuel, can help Indian buyers to recoup about one-third of the Model Y’s $67,000 price tag over four to five years, the company’s India head said on Wednesday. Tesla entered India in July with its imported Model Y, priced at a significant markup to its other major markets because of India’s 100% import tariff. Tesla is targeting a niche electric vehicle market in India that accounts for about 5% of overall sales in the world’s third-largest car market. Analysts estimate that the majority of cars sold in India are priced below $22,000. Since starting deliveries in September, Tesla has sold just over 100 Model Y’s in India, based on Indian government registration data. Tesla’s India General Manager Sharad Agarwal said if Indian customers considered the low cost of maintaining a Tesla and electricity versus petrol prices, they could save around $22,000 over four to five years. …

Tesla is fighting the EV sales slump with short-term rentals

Tesla is fighting the EV sales slump with short-term rentals

Tesla is now in the business of short-term car rentals, as the company tries to mitigate falling sales in the US following the expiry of federal tax credits for electric vehicles. Rentals are currently being offered in two California Tesla stores in San Diego and Costa Mesa, with plans to expand to more locations by the end of this year, Electrek reports. Vehicles can be rented for three to seven days, with prices starting at $60 per day, depending on the Tesla model. To sweeten the deal, Tesla is allowing customers to charge the vehicles at Supercharger locations and use supervised Full Self-Driving for free, alongside providing a $250 credit for renters who choose to purchase a Tesla. Third-party rental services like Hertz already have Tesla vehicles available in their fleets, but Tesla’s new program cuts out the middleman for anyone who wants to hire from the company directly. This launch comes as demand for EVs is expected to decline in the US following the $7,500 federal tax credit ending on October 1st. Now that …

Tesla shareholders approve Elon Musk’s $1 trillion pay package

Tesla shareholders voted Thursday to approve Elon Musk’s staggering new pay package, in a move aimed at retaining the controversial CEO’s leadership during a time of great upheaval for the automaker. Over 75 percent of shares voted in favor of the proposal. The vote gives Musk enormous sway over his electric vehicle company, as well as awards him with the largest corporate payout in history. The final tally is expected to be disclosed in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing in a few days. The proposed pay package, which was put forward by the board last September, would award Musk more than 423 million additional shares, increasing his stake to about 25 percent from its current level of 15 percent. In order to receive the full compensation, Musk would need to achieve a series of milestones, including raising Tesla’s market capitalization from its current $1.5 trillion to $8.5 trillion in 10 years. Musk must also put into service 1 million robotaxis and sell 12 million more cars, 10 million Full Self-Driving subscriptions, and 1 million …

‘Eyes-off driving’ is coming, and we’re so not ready

‘Eyes-off driving’ is coming, and we’re so not ready

Last month, General Motors added its name to the growing list of automakers who are pursuing a novel type of partially automated technology called “eyes-off driving.” What they didn’t do, though, is provide a thorough description of how they’ll take responsibility when something goes wrong. Not to be confused with the type of “eyes-off” distracted driving that many drivers seem to be practicing these days, GM’s system would be a step toward the automaker’s ultimate goal of selling privately owned, fully autonomous cars. Some GM-produced cars already include the company’s Super Cruise system, which allows drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel but uses gaze-tracking technology to make sure they keep their eyes on the road. The new system, at Level 3 of the six-level scale of autonomy, would allow drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel and their eyes off the road on some US highways. GM says it aims to bring its Level 3 system to market by 2028, starting with the Cadillac Escalade IQ. From there, the technology …
