Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari Thursday criticised the shifting of deadlines yet again for clearing the massive garbage dump at Dadumajra, alleging that the government has been evasive about the expenditure incurred on the project. Tewari said he had asked in Parliament about the amount of money spent since April 2019 on clearing and managing the site. “The government ducked the question because the expenditure runs into a huge sum, running into high numbers in crores,” he said. The Congress leader pointed out that the Chandigarh Administration and the Municipal Corporation had assured the National Green Tribunal (NGT) that the site would be cleared by December 25, 2024. This commitment was made in the Administrator’s Advisory Committee meeting in August 2024, he added.
