News of the attack on Iran arrived just before the last show of The Skindom at Sahyande Theatre, Attapadi (Kerala). There was fear, grief and uncertainty. Families of six members of the cast, who are in Norway, seemed even further away as flight bookings passing through West Asia would now be unusable. Tears were shed. Prayers were said for people, for the world caught in a war. A conscious decision was made to continue to offer presence and peace through touch as the last show of the Asian premiere of The Skindom unfolded. 2 min readLucknowUpdated: May 22, 2026 07:39 PM IST A 37-year-old Lucknow doctor has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman patient inside the operation theatre of a hospital after administering her a sedative. Following the incident, State Health Minister and Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brijesh Pathak directed that the hospital be sealed and the doctor’s degree be confiscated. Police said the woman, aged 19, had been admitted to the private hospital on Monday as she was suffering from a high fever. Following her complaint, police registered a case of rape against the accused doctor on Thursday. Since the victim belongs to the Scheduled Caste community, police also invoked relevant provisions of the SC/ST Act in the case. Police arrested Vijay Kumar Giri, who was allegedly running the hospital from a rented building in the area. During questioning, he admitted to the crime. “The accused is being produced before the court. The hospital has also been sealed,” said Twinkle Jain, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police. Velankanni Raj Krishna Gana Sabha on Saturday honoured senior theatre artiste, director and writer ‘Appa’ Ramesh, who has given over 7,500 stage appearances, with the Nataka Choodamani Award. It also conferred the Iyakkunar Sigaram K. Balachander Award on theatre actor and historian Karthik Bhatt with 400 stage appearances. The awards were presented during the inauguration of the Sabha’s Summer Theatre Fest that will feature nine plays during the weekends till May 24.   Actor and former Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu Eyal Isai Nataka Mandram, Sachu, appreciated the fact that amateurs were the ones who were shining in the firmament of Tamil theatre. “There used to be a time when plays would be made into films and actors would move from theatre to cinema. The estimate has been prepared on the basis of a survey assessing demolition costs and the valuation of saleable debris.Fort Kochi division councillor Shiny Mathew has written to the Corporation seeking demolition of the theatre, located on civic body-owned land, citing public safety concerns. The survey pegged the demolition cost at ₹4.50 lakh while valuing the saleable debris at ₹14.03 lakh.
