Soorma Hockey Club thumps Kalinga Lancers 5-3 to rise to 3rd spot

Soorma Hockey Club registered a hard-fought 5-3 victory against the Kalinga Lancers in the Hockey India League 2024-25 at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on Monday. Dilpreet Singh (5’) gave the Lancers the lead in the game but Prabhjot Singh (26’) restored parity for Soorma. Harmanpreet Singh (32’, 54’) and Nicolas Keenan (33’) extended Soorma’s lead with quickfire goals in the third quarter. However, Theirry Brinkman (44’) pulled a goal back towards the end of the quarter. Maninder Singh (51’) and Harmanpreet Singh found the back of the net to extend Soorma’s lead further and even though Gursahibjit Singh (56’) pulled a goal back in the dying minutes, Soorma walked away with three crucial points. Soorma dictated the tempo as the game began, making headways into the opposition half but the Lancers had the first shot of the game as Sanjay crossed the ball from the right wing and Aran Zalewski’s deflection forced Soorma goalkeeper Vincent Vanasch into action early. Kalinga Lancers tames Rarh Bengal Tigers for its first win

The Kalinga Lancers registered its first win of Hockey India League (HIL) 2024-25 as it hammered the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers 6-0 at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela on Tuesday. Thierry Brinkman (3` and 47`), Sanjay (6`), Alexander Hendrickx (9`), Nicolas Bandurak (29`) and Boby Singh Dhami (49`) scored for the Kalinga Lancers. It was a match between two sides at the opposite ends of the table with the Rarh Bengal Tigers at the top having won all three of their matches before today. The Kalinga Lancers, on the other hand, had lost two and drawn one of its three matches. That was to change by the end of the match as the Kalinga Lancers finally got its campaign back on track. The Lancers got off to a lightning-quick start as it took a 2-0 lead inside the first four minutes. Dutchman Thierry Brinkman is excited to play with Indian players in HIL

One of the finest hockey players in the world, Thierry Brinkman of the Netherlands is excited to play alongside the Indian players in the upcoming Hockey India League. The Dutchman is set to don the colours of Kalinga Lancers, the only original franchise from the previous HIL editions. Reflecting on his upcoming stint, Brinkman said, “I am looking forward to playing in Rourkela. The stadium there is the most beautiful hockey stadium in the world. We played some great World Cup games there in 2023. Good memories.” Brinkman, who is a key player for the Dutch national team and was instrumental in their Gold medal triumph at the Paris 2024 Olympics, is excited to engage with the Indian hockey community. “For this year’s HIL, I’m looking forward to playing for the Indian hockey fans.
