Heatwave continues across the state; Brahmpuri records region’s highest temperature at 45 degrees Celsius

Parts of Vidarbha witnessed scattered rainfall of moderate intensity on Thursday, June 11. As per the Indian Meteorological Department, the scattered showers in parts of Maharashtra brought a brief respite from the prevailing heatwave conditions. Despite the rainfall activity, there was no significant change in maximum temperatures across the region. Day temperatures remained appreciably above normal, keeping heat stress levels high in several districts, according to IMD. Similarly, minimum temperatures showed no large variation and stayed within the normal range for this time of the year. The city woke up to overcast skies, with several areas receiving rainfall during the early hours of the day. Cloudy conditions have persisted in Hyderabad since Monday (March 16) evening, when parts of the city first experienced light rain. This was followed by light to moderate rainfall around midnight on Tuesday (March 17) and into the early hours of Wednesday (March 18). The showers have brought some relief from the high maximum temperatures recorded across Hyderabad since the beginning of March. The city was lashed by another intense storm late Saturday night, the fourth such event to batter the Capital this month. While thunderstorms aren’t out of the ordinary during the pre-monsoon period, however, this year’s May has turned out to be the wettest on record—a result of an unusual confluence of weather systems and ample moisture. (Vipin Kumar/HT Photo) “This time, easterly and southeasterly moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and southwesterlies from the Arabian Sea converged in the lower troposphere over northwest India,” an IMD scientist said, stating this was aided and intensified by three prevailing weather systems. “Their interaction with mid-level dry northerlies and northwesterlies typically triggers intense thunderstorm activity. Weather alert: Thundershowers expected in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar

According to the recent weather report from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), an orange alert has been declared in various parts of Maharashtra. An orange alert has been declared in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) on May 23 and 24. This region is set to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, heavy to very heavy rainfall and gusty winds at a speed of 50 to 60 km/hr in isolated regions.  According to the IMD`s latest Mumbai weather alert, a cyclonic circulation was expected to develop over the Arabian Sea off the Karnataka coast on May 21.  A low-pressure area is likely to form around May 22 over the east-central Arabian Sea near the Karnataka coast. As a result, rainfall activity across Maharashtra is expected to increase between May 19 and 25, particularly affecting Konkan and the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra. File photo | Photo Credit: The Hindu As heavy rains poured here in the early hours of Friday (April 4, 2025), the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) forcast light to moderate thundershowers in parts of the State during the day. According to the APSDMA, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Kakinada, East Godavari, Anantapur, Annamayya, and Tirupati districts are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thundershowers. “People should stay alert during thundershowers, and farmers must take necessary precautions while working in the fields,” said APSDMA Managing Director R. Kurmanadh in a press release. Meanwhile, several regions across the state received rainfall on Thursday with the highest 68.9 mm recorded in Pedavutapalli of Krishna district. This is followed by 65.2 mm in Sanikavaram and 62 mm in Yerragondapalem of Prakasam district. In total, 18 locations in the state reported rainfall exceeding 20 mm.
