Representatives of Tibet Support Groups from 32 countries on Friday unanimously endorsed the exclusive authority of the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso to determine matters related to his reincarnation, warning against any interference by China in the centuries-old Tibetan Buddhist tradition. Sikyong of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) Penpa Tsering reiterated that safeguarding the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, particularly the issue of the reincarnation of the Dalai Lama remains a major focus. Tremors were felt in parts of Kolkata following reports of an earthquake in neighbouring countries, such as Myanmar, Bangladesh and Tibet, on Tuesday, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). Locals reported feeling tremors after their surroundings began shaking, after which they realised there was an earthquake. Speaking to ANI, Mrityunjay Das said he saw things shaking, which led him to realise an earthquake was occurring. “We felt the tremors. Later, we felt that the lamp and chair had moved from their position, which is when we got to know that there was an earthquake,” he said. Image Source : AP Tibet is reeling under back-to-back earthquakes. Earthquakes in Tibet: Another earthquake of magnitude 4 on the Richter Scale jolted Tibet on Wednesday morning. As per the information, the quake occurred at around 06:58 am (IST) and the epicentre was in Xizang. This comes after a powerful 7.1 magnitude quake killed 126 and caused major devastation in Tibet. The epicenter was located at a depth of around 10 kilometres beneath the surface. The tremors were also felt in neighboring Nepal, where the earthquake’s magnitude was recorded at about 4.2 on the Richter scale. Xigaze is located 90 km north-east of Lobutse in the Khumbu Himalayan range in northeast Nepal, and is the last border town of Tibet not far from the Nepal-Tibet-Indian tri-junction touching Sikkim. Xigaze, also Shigaste, is the seat of Panchen Lama, the second most influential Buddhist monk after the Dalai Lama.
