New Delhi: Pigeon feeding point at Palika Bazar near Regal in New Delhi on Sunday. (Vipin Kumar/HT photo) The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) in a submission before the National Green Tribunal (NGT) stated that it has initiated a crackdown on pigeon feeding spots within its jurisdiction by issuing challans to those who feed pigeons in public areas. According to NDMC data, the council has issued 76 challans since the start of 2026, in addition to conducting regular cleaning drives at prominent pigeon feeding points. The April 9 submission, uploaded on April 17, follows a plea filed by school student Armaan Palliwal before the tribunal last May, which flagged the health impacts caused by pigeons. In the plea, seen by HT, the student said that feeding and proliferation of pigeons leads to droppings on footpaths, pavements and traffic islands. The plea stated that when these points are cleaned, the toxic particulates from dried droppings mix with dust and pollute the environment, causing health impacts – including serious lung diseases such as hypersensitivity pneumonitis, which causes …

RBI tightens forex rules, bans non-deliverable Re contracts | Business News

3 min readMumbaiApr 2, 2026 01:51 AM IST The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed authorised dealer (AD) banks to discontinue offering non-deliverable derivative contracts involving the Indian rupee to both resident and non-resident users, with immediate effect. The move is aimed at strengthening oversight in the foreign exchange derivatives market. According to the new guidelines, banks and other ADs are prohibited from entering into or facilitating any non-deliverable derivative transactions linked to the rupee. It is seen as part of a broader effort to curb speculative activity and enhance transparency in currency markets as the rupee has come under pressure in the wake of the West Asia conflict. The rupee, which had fallen below 95, closed at 94.81 against the dollar Wednesday. However, Wednesday’s directive provides some operational flexibility. Authorised dealers may continue to offer deliverable foreign exchange derivative contracts, provided these are strictly used to meet genuine hedging requirements of clients, the RBI said. Importantly, users availing such contracts must not simultaneously hold offsetting positions in non-deliverable derivatives. To ensure compliance, dealers …

PCB tightens grip post Naseem Shah controversy, warns centrally contracted players

Modern cricket isn’t just about what happens on the field anymore. Players today carry their identity off it as well, especially in the age of social media. And sometimes, one wrong move online can create as much noise as anything in a match. The Pakistan Cricket Board made that clear recently. Naseem Shah was fined PKR 20 million by PCB (AFP) Naseem Shah, the 23-year-old fast bowler, found himself at the centre of a controversy after a post from his account appeared to take a dig at Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, asking, “Why is she being treated like a queen at Lord’s?” He later claimed that his account had been hacked, but by then, the conversation had already gathered momentum. The PCB didn’t take long to respond. A PKR 20 million fine and a show-cause notice followed, sending a strong signal that the board is not willing to overlook such issues. It also made one thing clear: players, along with those managing their social media accounts, will be held responsible if guidelines are breached. …

Assembly Elections LIVE: Election Commission tightens vigil in West Bengal ahead of polls

Congress leader K.C. Venugopal on Sunday (March 22, 2026) alleged that a CPI(M)-BJP nexus is evident in the ongoing election, asserting that such an understanding would not succeed in Kerala this time. Addressing a press conference, the AICC leader reiterated the party’s promise of free Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus travel for women if the UDF comes to power in the State. “CPI(M) and LDF know very well that people’s sentiments are against them and are applying their last trick. CPI(M)-BJP friendship is not new in Kerala,” he said. He claimed that signs of this relationship were visible in issues such as PM-SHRI and the Left party’s stance towards the central government. “When a bridge is laid, there should be benefits to both sides. We have seen the postponement in the Lavlin case against the Chief Minister. We have also seen the pace of investigations by central agencies in Kerala,” he said. Mr. Venugopal alleged that the same connection was reflected in the candidate lists of the CPI(M) and the BJP, claiming that …
