Delhi govt plans to build two new ISBTs at Tikri Border, Narela

To decongest the overcrowded Ring Road and the area around the ISBT Kashmere Gate, the Delhi government is planning to construct two new inter-state bus terminals (ISBTs) in Outer Delhi’s Tikri Border and Narela, officials said on Monday. Apart from the decongestion and reduction of burden on the existing ISBT, the transport department’s key aim behind developing the two ISBTs is to curb vehicular pollution. “A large number of buses coming from neighbouring states are BS IV or diesel-fuelled buses. Delhi is shifting towards electric vehicles and all the old buses are CNG buses but the neighbouring cities are yet to convert to CNG and electric… So, If a new ISBT is developed in the outer part of the city, these buses will not enter the city,” said an official. Officials said the ISBT at Tikri Border will be developed on a land of 29,500 sq m. “The proposal was approved by the transport minister last month… The land is under PWD, so the transport department has written to the department seeking to acquire it,” …

Tear Gas Fired At Farmers Marching Towards Delhi At Punjab-Haryana Border

New Delhi: Tear gas has been fired at farmers massing at the Shambhu border point between Punjab and Haryana – a key meeting point for farmers from each state heading to Delhi as part of their ‘Delhi Chalo’ call. Visuals showed huge plumes of smoke – making visibility almost impossible – and hundreds of farmers, as well as media personnel, running helter-skelter to the sound of tear gas shells being fired. The shelling – the first signs of violence – broke as the clock struck noon and the farmers began their push to Delhi. An estimated two dozen shells were fired, despite no immediate signs of provocation. Visuals from the Shambhu border – over 200 km from Delhi – also showed the police and security personnel – already outnumbered – dropping smoke bombs from drones to disperse the farmers.
