Expressing concern over the considerable delay in providing replies to petitions filed under the Right to Information Act, 2005, the Tamil Nadu Information Commission has urged the State government to facilitate online management of RTI applications/responses in all the Departments of Secretariat, offices of the Heads of Departments and District Collectorates. In a letter to the Chief Secretary, the then Chief Information Commissioner said that the process of filing RTI petitions through online mode had commenced, though not effectively, in the Departments of Secretariat and some District Collectorates. However, there was a lot of confusion in that process which in turn caused considerable delay in furnishing replies by the Public Information Officers to the petitioners.  During the enquiry before the Commission, the PIOs had expressed difficulty in handling the RTI petitions online. “This requires urgent attention so that the prescribed time limit of 30 days in the RTI Act for furnishing of reply by the PIOs can be strictly adhered to,” the then CIC Md. He said this while chairing a high-level review meeting with senior officials and port authorities. The minister said the evolving situation in West Asia had initially disrupted cargo movement and vessel traffic. “We acted swiftly and in a coordinated manner to address emerging challenges. Continuous monitoring and timely intervention have helped us regularise port operations and clear the backlog efficiently, ensuring that India’s trade remains resilient,” Sonowal said. To resolve this dilemma, a Parliamentary Committee has recommended that the government create a live public dashboard showing the location of hospitals empanelled under the PM-RAHAT scheme to enable Good Samaritans (or Rah-Veer) to take the injured persons to the relevant facility during the critical “golden hour”. The committee has also recommended that the dashboard be integrated with the existing 108 ambulance network. On February 13, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) launched the Prime Minister-Road Accident Victims’ Hospitalisation and Assured Treatment (PM-RAHAT) Scheme against the backdrop of rising road mishaps in India. The standing committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, though, raised concern over the achievement target of the scheme as “unquantified”. Residents across Gujarat, on Friday, reported receiving cooking gas cylinders on time without disruption, even as the state government moved to dispel rumours of any shortage and reiterated that adequate LPG stock is available. Mahipalsinh Parmar, a resident of Thasra in Kheda district, said Indane gas cylinders were being delivered regularly, reported IANS. “As per guidelines, the service is good and delivery is made on time without any difficulty,” he added. Another consumer, Paresh Vora, said there were currently no issues in service. “After booking, cylinders are delivered on time,” he added, reported IANS. A Bench headed by Justice Surya Kant agreed with Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Union government, that NIA investigates cases with national repercussions. The court was considering the setting up of sufficient number of “special and exclusive” NIA courts. “We will see these courts work day and night exclusively for you [NIA],” Justice Kant remarked. The hearing saw lawyers discuss how special courts constituted to try offences under a particular special statute eventually have their dockets clogged by other cases, defeating the very purpose for which they were formed.  The apex court has repeatedly referred to the sheer burden of trial judges who have to multi-task — hear ordinary criminal cases while sparing the time to try terror and heinous offences.
