The Tiruchirappalli to Sharjah flight had 144 passengers on board. An Air India Express flight which reported a hydraulic failure shortly after take-off from the Tiruchirappalli airport in Tamil Nadu has landed safely. The flight, AXB 613, which was headed to Sharjah with 144 passengers on board, had taken off at 5.40 pm. After the snag was reported, the plane was asked to turn back, but because it was not advisable to attempt a precautionary landing with full fuel on board, the pilots burned some of it by maintaining a holding pattern some distance from Tiruchirappalli. The plane remained airborne for over two and a half hours, finally landing at 8.15 pm to cheers and clapping from passengers. Photo: Special Arrangement A Sharjah-bound flight from Tiruchirappalli returned to the Tiruchirappalli International Airport for an an emergency landing after it developed a mid-air technical glitch shortly after departure on Friday (October 11, 2024) evening. “The Tiruchi-Sharjah Air India Express flight (AXB 613) just made an emergency landing at the Tiruchi International Airport after turning back mid-air due to a technical glitch. Aircraft made a normal landing and all passengers are safe,” Airport Director G. Gopalakrishnan told The Hindu. The Air India Express flight returned to the airport due to an extended landing gear. It landed safely after hovering over the airport for over two hours. Bharathidasan University staff protest move to pay guest lecturers’ salaries

Over 400 teaching and administrative staff of Bharathidasan University held a sit-in demonstration on the varsity’s premises in Tiruchi on Thursday to protest against sanctioning of one month’s salary for guest lecturers working in its former constituent colleges. They later withdrew their agitation after they were apparently promised that a decision would be taken after getting funds from the government. BDU had paid the salaries of guest lecturers who worked in the constituent colleges that were converted into government colleges in 2019, until September 2023. Guest lecturers and administrative staff of 10 colleges previously under BDU had been affected by the non-payment of salaries and had been protesting about this in recent weeks. As an interim measure, the university had decided to release the payment of one month’s salary to the guest lecturers, but this was objected to by BDU staff associations who resorted to a protest on Thursday. A team of officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Finance Committee met the protesting university staff. In a statement issued later, the BDU Staff Welfare Association …

Acting on information, the team went to the parcel office and checked the container lorry and found banned tobacco substances inside. The vehicle and the tobacco substances were seized and handed over to the E. Pudur police station. A complaint was lodged with the E. Pudur police station against four persons, including the parcel office manager P.
