Imprisoned Iranian Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi transferred to hospital | World News

1 min readIslamabadUpdated: May 1, 2026 11:07 PM IST Iran’s imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi has been urgently transferred from prison to a hospital in northwestern Iran after a “catastrophic deterioration” of her health, her foundation said Friday. The Narges Mohammadi Foundation said the Nobel Prize laureate had two episodes of complete loss of consciousness and a severe cardiac crisis. Earlier Friday, Mohammadi had fainted twice in prison in Zanjan northwestern Iran, according to the foundation. She was believed to have suffered a heart attack in late March, according to her lawyers who visited her a few days after the incident. At the time, she appeared pale, lost weight and needed a nurse to help her walk. The Yamakanamaradi police had uncovered a murder case that the family was trying to pass off as a missing person case. They had arrested three persons after a detailed investigation. Ramarajan told reporters in Belagavi on Wednesday (April 15) that the case will be transferred to Maharashtra as the alleged offence was committed in Araga in Sangli district. Speaking at a press conference at the Press Club of India in New Delhi, the family members alleged that around 30–40 people were involved in the assault on Tarun Kumar, but the local police have so far arrested only 16 people. Tarun Kumar was killed on March 4 as an argument — over the throwing of a water balloon by a girl in his family, which splashed on a neighbour — escalated into violence. At Saturday’s present conference, his mother said, “So many people came and beat my son mercilessly over such a small matter. The Director of Health Services, K.J. Reena, has directed Bindu Sundar, gynaecologist and resident medical officer (RMO) at the Nedumangad taluk hospital, to go on forced leave after a newborn’s death on Tuesday sparked massive protests at the hospital, with the family alleging medical negligence and with various political outfits creating a ruckus at the hospital, demanding action against the doctor. Protests continued at the hospital on Wednesday too, with the family refusing to accept the body of the infant and staging a sit-in at the hospital. A statement issued by the office of Health Minister Veena George on Wednesday said that Dr. Sundar was being transferred to the Punalur taluk hospital. Ms. George said that a three-member team from SAT Hospital, including a gynaecologist, anaesthesiologist and a neonatologist, had been asked to conduct an immediate inquiry into the incident and to submit a report on Wednesday itself. Over 600 police officials transferred in Beed district

In a major reshuffle in police department, the state government authorities on Thursday transferred over 600 police officials in Maharashtra`s Beed district, officials said, reported the PTI. As many as 606 policemen were transferred in the district which had come under the spotlight after the murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh last year. Of these cops, in the ranks of constables to police sub-inspectors, 226 have completed 12 years in the same tehsil, the department said in a media release. The district has nearly 2,100 policemen, according to the PTI. After sarpanch Deshmukh`s murder, which had sparked a massive uproar and snowballed into a huge political issue, IPS officer Navneet Kanwat was transferred to Beed as the superintendent of police (SP) to effect changes in the department.
