The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has dismantled a transnational drug trafficking syndicate with the arrest in Manipur of its alleged kingpin who operated from Haichin in Myanmar’s Chin State, the agency said on Wednesday (July 22, 2026). “Nengzatuan alias Tuanpi was apprehended from Churachandpur, Manipur. Investigation has established that he was one of the principal international suppliers operating from Chin State, controlling a trafficking network that routed methamphetamine and heroin through Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, and Tripura for distribution across different parts of India and Bangladesh,” said the NCB. The accused is wanted in three cases registered by the NCB and is also connected to seven other cases instituted by the police in Churachandpur and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). The NCB cases involve seizures of about 28.22 kg of methamphetamine tablets and close to 1.28 kg of heroin, valued at over ₹25 crore. According to the NCB, the syndicate operated through a well-organised network of international suppliers, cross-border couriers, transport coordinators, local facilitators, receivers and financial handlers. Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, an American citizen and Khalistani separatist who is designated a tertorist by India, has been described by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as “a target of transnational repression”. The FBI said this as it posted on X about an Indian national, Nikhil Gupta, having pleaded guilty of an assassination plot against Pannun. Amid intensified anti-terror operations across the country, security forces on Wednesday arrested two overground workers (OGWs) carrying posters of terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwatul Hind (AGuH), leading to the busting of an inter-state and transnational terror module. The operation resulted in a major haul of arms and 2,900 kilograms of explosive material, reported news agency PTI, quoting officials. The Srinagar Police apprehended the OGWs on November 2, and a swift investigation by the local police led to the unravelling of the plot in less than three days. According to available information, the case pertained to fraudulent activities carried out by a highly organized cybercrime network targeting victims globally. The group, posing as tech support services, approached their targets, especially in the USA. They convinced their targets that their systems had been hacked and that large unauthorized transactions were being made from their bank accounts, leading them to believe they were under surveillance by law enforcement agencies. Under the guise of protecting the victims’ finances, the cybercriminals then induced the victims to transfer their bank holdings into new accounts provided by the criminals. In some instances, they also coerced victims into transferring funds through international gift cards or cryptocurrency, resulting in significant financial losses for the victims.
