No plans to privatise APSRTC, assures Transport Minister

Ramprasad Reddy on Saturday said that there were no plans to privatise the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC). In a statement, the Minister said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had held a high-level review meeting and announced a series of initiatives aimed at modernising the public sector transport. Highlighting the successful completion of one year of the Stree Shakti scheme, the Minister said it was not a financial burden on the APSRTC, rather a social responsibility. He said as part of broader modernisation efforts, APSRTC depots would be upgraded through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and the government had pledged continued support to the APSRTC employees. The Minister claimed that the coalition government had successfully revived the APSRTC after a period of decline in the previous five years. “The government now is steering the APSRTC towards a new phase of growth and transformation,” he said. …
