The dispute arose over whether the coach’s doors should remain open during the downpour. Lohar reportedly wanted them closed to prevent rainwater from splashing inside, while Suvarna insisted they remain open. As Suvarna was getting more aggressive, some fellow commuters tried to reason with him and even advised Lohar to stand one the opposite gate instead. Then, between Goregaon and Malad stations, Suvarna allegedly unzipped his bag, took out a knife and walked towards Lohar. Ramprasad Reddy on Saturday said that there were no plans to privatise the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC). In a statement, the Minister said Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had held a high-level review meeting and announced a series of initiatives aimed at modernising the public sector transport. Highlighting the successful completion of one year of the Stree Shakti scheme, the Minister said it was not a financial burden on the APSRTC, rather a social responsibility. He said as part of broader modernisation efforts, APSRTC depots would be upgraded through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model and the government had pledged continued support to the APSRTC employees. The Minister claimed that the coalition government had successfully revived the APSRTC after a period of decline in the previous five years. “The government now is steering the APSRTC towards a new phase of growth and transformation,” he said. …

The continuous hike in fuel prices is likely to impact school fees in Bengaluru, with many private schools planning to raise transport fees by around 9% this academic year. As of Wednesday, the petrol price stood at ₹110.93 per litre, while the diesel price stood at ₹98.80 per litre. D. Shashikumar, general secretary of the Associated Management of English Medium Schools in Karnataka, said, “Every year, school fees rise by 5% to 10%, but transport fees have remained unchanged. We have been using overall fee collections to cover the maintenance and fuel costs of buses and vans. However, with the recent surge in fuel prices, we are now obligated to increase transport or school bus fees. While some schools collect transport charges annually, others do so on a monthly basis.” He added, “The transport fee depends on the location of the school and the distance from the students’ homes to the school.
