The Union government on Tuesday launched TribeX, a digital learning platform aimed at preserving, promoting and disseminating India’s tribal arts, languages, culture and traditional knowledge, as part of a broader push to harness technology for tribal empowerment. The platform currently hosts 20 free certificate courses covering subjects such as tribal paintings, handicrafts, handloom traditions, artefacts and musical instruments. Describing TribeX as a first-of-its-kind initiative, Oram said the platform reflected the government’s commitment to preserving India’s tribal heritage while making authentic tribal knowledge accessible to learners across the world. The Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs is set to bring together policymakers, researchers, academic institutions and technology experts in Bhubaneswar for a two-day national workshop beginning Tuesday, with a focus on strengthening Tribal Research Institutes (TRIs) across the country. The ministry also expects the platform to encourage research, facilitate cultural exchange and create livelihood opportunities for tribal communities. Eight people were arrested, and a teenager was detained for allegedly gang-raping a 20-year-old tribal woman in Jharkhand’s Ranchi district, police said on Sunday. The incident occurred on Friday night in a village under the Mandar Police Station area.  The accused forcefully took the woman to a secluded place near the village and raped her, police said. An FIR was lodged on Saturday based on the statement of the rape survivor. Subsequently, the woman’s medical examination was conducted at a government hospital in Ranchi. NESTS signs Bihar, EdTech pacts to boost tribal education through EMRS network

The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), under the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs, on Friday signed two agreements aimed at strengthening the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) network, partnering with the Bihar government to improve the implementation of tribal residential schools and with education technology firm CoGrad to introduce artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled academic support for tribal students across the country. NESTS signed agreements with Bihar and CoGrad to strengthen EMRS schools through better governance, infrastructure and AI-enabled learning. The first memorandum of understanding (MoU), signed with the Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission under the state’s SC and ST welfare department, aims to strengthen coordination for the planning, establishment and monitoring of EMRSs in Bihar. “Under the pact, Bihar will receive financial assistance of ₹1.47 lakh per student under the EMRS scheme, bringing it in line with other states that have entered into similar agreements with NESTS. The accused, SDM Karun Dahariya, a State Administrative Service Officer, and his three associates were arrested for the murder of Karan Ram alias Ramnaresh and injuring two men on February 15 this year in a jungle area next to Hanspur village on the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border. The victims were allegedly assaulted after they stopped a truck carrying illegal bauxite, leading to the killing. Balrampur SP Vaibhav Banker said Dahariya had seized the truck from Jharkhand and brought it to Chhattisgarh without permission. The truck owner allegedly suspected robbery and contacted the three victims, who tried to stop the truck in Hanspur, prompting Dahariya to reach the spot. Women belonging to the Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) Kondhu community on Thursday have urged the government to provide safe drinking water facilities in Dayarthi village under Jeenabadu panchayat in Ananthagiri mandal of Alluri Sitharama Raju district. The villagers said that around 450 tribal residents in the hilltop settlement were dependent on contaminated stream water for drinking purposes, resulting in frequent illnesses such as malaria, cold and fever. They alleged that despite the implementation of schemes such as Jal Jeevan Mission and Janman, drinking water facilities had not reached their village. The residents said that road connectivity to the village had recently improved after Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan visited the area, but the drinking water issue remained unresolved. They also pointed out that patients had to travel to Devarapalli in private vehicles for treatment, spending nearly ₹2,000 on transportation. Asked by the bank to submit proof of his sister’s death to withdraw money from her account, Jitu Munda of Diananali village under Patna block in Keonjhar district had exhumed his sister’s body and carried the skeletal remains on his shoulder to the bank on Monday (April 27, 2026). Mr. Munda wanted to withdraw ₹19,300 that was in the account of Kalara Munda, who had died two months ago.
