Obsession review: Curry Barker’s ‘nice guy expose’ is dark, triggering, splendid; give Inde Navarrette the Oscar already

Obsession Director: Curry Barker Cast: Michael Johnston, Inde Navarrette, Cooper Tomlinson, Megan Lawless, Andy Richter Rating: ★★★★★ I am breaking a cardinal rule of mine for movie reviews with Obsession. This will be a spoiler-filled review. Usually, I talk about how a film has been made and how it made me feel, and that is enough. But with Obsession, it is impossible to discuss its impact or critique it without the specifics of those scenes and themes. To say that Obsession will go down in history as one of the seminal horror films is no exaggeration. Curry Barker’s feature film debut is everything horror needs to be – dark, tragic, scary, and discomforting. But it is so much more. It shines a mirror onto our society’s most privileged and ubiquitous monster – the nice guys. And it does so in a way that feels relatable across genders. Obsession review: Inde Navarrette delivers a performance for the ages. The premise (Spoilers ahead!) Bear (Michael Johnston), a music store employee, has an unrequited crush on his co-worker …

Vishal Jethwa never brought up Sridevi in front of Homebound co-star Janhvi Kapoor: ‘It could be very triggering’ | Bollywood News

Vishal Jethwa admits his hopes for Homebound were invariably high going into the Oscars nominations announcement last month. But the snub of Neeraj Ghaywan’s movie broke his heart. “I’m feeling very sad I’m talking about it in the past tense,” he says. On this edition of SCREEN Spotlight, he looks back at his year-long Homebound journey, building a friendship beyond films with co-stars Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor, and his brief, hilarious interaction with Hollywood legend Martin Scorsese, who served as an Executive Producer on the film. Can you recall the exact moment when you realized Homebound didn’t make it to the Oscars? I was watching the announcement live for the first time. I’d taken out my favourite blue shirt and gotten ready properly as if I’m present there. I was celebrating the moment. Sadly, I found out that wasn’t needed this time (laughs). I may be dealing with it in jest now, but the truth is there was hope and it got shattered. We end up expecting more somewhere even if we don’t want …

Why Tipu Sultan keeps triggering political flashpoints in Maharashtra | Mumbai News

Why Tipu Sultan keeps triggering political flashpoints in Maharashtra | Mumbai News

Nearly 1,000 kilometres away from the kingdom he once ruled, Tipu Sultan has once again become the focal point of a high voltage political battle in Maharashtra. What began as the display of his portrait in the office of Malegaon’s deputy mayor has snowballed into a statewide confrontation, drawing in Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and a police case against Congress state president Harshwardhan Sapkal. At the heart of the controversy is Sapkal’s comparison of Tipu Sultan with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. But this is not an isolated episode. Over the past several years, Tipu Sultan has repeatedly surfaced in political disputes in Mumbai, Malegaon and parts of north Maharashtra, particularly in communally sensitive urban pockets. What has happened now? The immediate trigger was the display of Tipu Sultan’s portrait in the office of the newly elected deputy mayor in Malegaon. After protests by Shiv Sena leaders, the civic administration removed the portrait, citing that Tipu Sultan is not on the state government’s official protocol list of leaders whose portraits may be displayed in government offices. The …

IND vs SA 2nd Test: How did Simon Harmer beat Yashasvi Jaiswal with bounce, triggering a collapse | Cricket News

“Kolkata ka wicket to alag that. Yeh to pura road tha.” These were Kuldeep Yadav’s words after Day 2 of the Guwahati Test. It was hard work for Indian spinners trying to create chances on a red-soil wicket on which the ball hardly deviated. But it was a different story for Simon Harmer. While in Kolkata, all he had to do was pitch the ball in the right areas to get wickets, in Guwahati, he used his experience and skill to get rid of Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-hander was well set on 58 and seemed to have the antidote to whatever Harmer did to engineer the Kolkata heist. But a cunning delivery from the off-spinner left a bewildered Jaiswal staring at the pitch. 1 Round the Stumps Harmer angles the delivery in from round the stumps, creating an unusual line for the left-hander 2 Indecision Created Jaiswal caught in two minds – should he go forward or stay back? The angle created doubt 3 Weight on Back Foot Jaiswal commits his weight to the backfoot, …

The ruling alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticised Mr. Raut and advised him to stick to the “facts.” In the book, he claimed that the Shiv Sena Chief late Balasaheb Thackeray, and NCP-SP chief Sharad Pawar helped Mr. Modi and Mr. Shah when they faced political and legal troubles, yet the “two were ungrateful.” “During the 2002 Gujarat riots, former Gujarat Chief Minister Mr. Modi, was about to be arrested. It was Mr. Pawar who opposed the arrest as he was an elected CM, thus shielding him,” said Mr. Raut, adding that Mr. Pawar might tell the truth.  Mr. Raut made …
