Early on Friday in Chile, Indian women’s U21 team played their third group-stage match at the FIH Junior World Cup againt Ireland, making it two wins out three matches to be on six points. But, as all group-stage matches came to an end on Saturday, India ended up missing out on place in the quarterfinals, as the tourmament’s new format ended their hopes of progressing to the business end. In their match against Ireland, India set the tone from the start with nine circle penetrations in the first quarter and the opening goal in the 12th minute, when Kanikac Siwach finished a field play after sustained high pressing. Ireland, by contrast, were unable to generate penalty corners and produced only one circle entry, relying on a compact defensive block to withstand India’s superiority. U21 Taekwondo World C’ships: Ankit Mer, Nitesh Singh win India’s first-ever medals

In a first, India clinched two world championships medal in Taekwondo as Nitesh Singh and Ankit Mer clinched a bronze and silver respectively at the inaugural edition of U21 Taekwondo World C’ships on Friday. Nitesh earned the distinction of becoming the first Indian to medal at the global competition as he entered the semi-finals of his weight category, beating an athlete from Poland. Though he lost his semi-final against Bulgaria, it was enough to secure himself a bronze medal. However it was Ankit, who caught the imagination of the world as he beat the reigning senior world champion Seo-Eun Su of South Korea en-route his silver medal finish in 54kg. Up against Seo in the Round of 16, Ankit made quick work of the South Korea to make the world take note of his talent. Goalkeeper Bikramjit Singh showcased nerves of steel, making three crucial saves as the India outwitted New Zealand 3-2 in a thrilling shootout to secure the bronze medal at the Sultan of Johor Cup junior men’s hockey tournament here on Saturday. After the match ended in a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time, strikers Gurjot Singh, Manmeet Singh, and Sourabh Anand Kushwaha converted their penalties in the tense shootout, while Bikramjit made three outstanding saves to secure victory against New Zealand. India Hold New Zealand To Thrilling 3-3 Draw In Hockey U21 Sultan Of Johor Cup

India colts displayed remarkable composure to finish their round-robin stage with a thrilling 3-3 draw against New Zealand at the Sultan of Johor Cup here on Friday. Gurjot Singh (6′), Rohit (17′) and Talem Priyobarta (60′) put their names on the scoresheet, while drag-flicker Jonty Elmes (17′, 32′, 45′) scored a hat-trick of goals for New Zealand.
