From an underground transport system that could reduce a 20-minute journey to just three minutes, to West Asia’s first Disney resort and one of the world’s largest AI campuses, the UAE is betting billions of dollars on projects that could transform how people live, work and travel over the next decade. As the Gulf nation pushes to diversify its economy beyond oil, transport, tourism, technology and real estate have emerged as the centrepieces of its long-term growth strategy. According to Gulf News, the first phase of the Dubai Loop is expected to open in 2026. The underground electric transport system will initially span 6.4 km with four stations before expanding to a 22.2-km network with 19 stations. Passengers will travel in electric vehicles through dedicated tunnels, with the pilot route expected to cut travel time between Dubai International Financial Centre and Dubai Mall from around 20 minutes to about three minutes. 3 min readNew DelhiMay 17, 2026 05:21 AM IST India’s trade flows have begun shifting amid the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz since March, as traders have begun finding alternate routes to export goods amid disruption in trade with countries in the West Asia region, an analysis of data shared by the Commerce and Industry Ministry showed. The most notable shift in trade routes was seen in the two transshipment hubs that India has free trade agreements (FTA) with – UAE and Singapore. Replacing UAE, Singapore became India’s second largest export market in April, registering a five-fold jump compared to February. The Strait of Hormuz was closed on March 2.  While exports to Singapore surged by 180% in April to $3.20 billion compared to $1.14 billion a year ago, exports to UAE slipped by 36% to $2.18 billion last month compared to $3.43 billion a year ago. India, UAE sign pacts on LPG, strategic oil reserves to cushion US-Iran war impact

As the world faces an energy crisis triggered by the war between Iran and the United States, backed by Israel, India signed a strategic deal with the United Arab Emirates for the supply for Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) to help ease the impact of the war.
