Twenty-one killed as bus rolls down hill in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur

A passenger bus rolled down a hillside in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday, leaving 21 people dead and 29 others injured, officials said. Army to the rescue An Army convoy passing along the hilly stretch led the rescue operation after the driver of the private bus lost control while negotiating a blind curve near the hilltop Kagort village in the Ramnagar area around 10 am. Leaders condole deaths President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah condoled the loss of lives in the accident. The PM also announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those killed and Rs 50,000 for those injured. At least 14 people were killed and 18 were injured after a passenger bus rolled down into a gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Monday. File | Photo Credit: PTI Three unidentified terrorists were killed in two separate anti-terror operations in Jammu region’s Udhampur and Kishtwar districts on Wednesday, the Army said.  Two terrorists were neutralised in the Jophar forest area of Basantgarh in Udhampur, where an encounter broke out around 4 p.m. on Tuesday after security forces detected terrorists hiding in a natural cave.  “Contact with terrorists was established yesterday (Tuesday), and since then, they were prevented from breaking contact. Intelligence-based Op Kiya underway in Udhampur after contact with terrorist

The Indian Army is conducting an intelligence-based joint operation along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur district after contact was established with terrorists on Tuesday afternoon. According to officials, troops of CIF Delta under the White Knight Corps, along with personnel from the J&K Police and CRPF, established contact with the terrorists at around 4 pm in the general area of Basantgarh. Security forces had launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) after receiving specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of unidentified suspects in Johpar-Marta village of Ramnagar tehsil. The search operation turned into a confrontation when the hiding terrorists opened fire on the security personnel. The forces immediately retaliated, triggering an exchange of gunfire in the forested terrain. To prevent any escape of those terrorists, additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area, and all exit points have been sealed. Jaipur: Surendra Kumar, a resident of Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu, who had been working as a medical assistant for the Indian Air Force, was killed in a Pakistani air strike early on Saturday in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir. Surendra Kumar had been serving in the medical wing of the Indian Air Force for the past 14 years. He was posted in 39 Wing, Udhampur. His death was confirmed by the Army Headquarters, which informed his brother-in-law Jai Prakash via phone. The medical assistant’s uncle, Subhash Moga, recalled him as a patriotic and helpful person who regularly motivated local youth to join the armed forces.
