Ambati Rayudu recalls when MS Dhoni called him ‘Tin roof’ for losing his temper easily but ended up went on field angrily to argue with umpires

2 min readUpdated: Mar 17, 2026 05:16 PM IST It was during the 2019 Indian Premier League when the calm captain MS Dhoni lost his cool against the umpires during the game between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. In a thrilling game of cricket, MS Dhoni scored 57 runs before being bowled by Ben Stokes for a yorker. The skipper had to walk back, but he returned to the field of play again when upset with a decision. The next delivery after Dhoni’s wicket was a clear waist-high no-ball to Santner, which was ruled out by umpire Ulhas Gandhe after trying to raise his arm. This prompted an angry Dhoni to enter the ground and argue animatedly with Gandhe, before leg umpire Bruce Oxenford calmed him and sent him back. Then Santner finished it off in style. MS Dhoni was later docked 50 per cent of his match fees for the offence at the time. CSK player Ambati Rayudu, recalling the incident on StarSports, revealed how Dhoni used to call him a …

Save the umpires: ICC needs to protect them from hard-hitters like Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya | Cricket News

Save the umpires: ICC needs to protect them from hard-hitters like Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya | Cricket News

The ICC need to worry about the sitting ducks at the non-striker’s end – the unshielded umpires in line of fire, at the mercy of batsmen with a chunky piece of wood in their hand, ready to launch missiles towards them. In India’s last two white-ball series – against South Africa and New Zealand – there has been a hit and a near miss. On both occasions, the umpire on target was local man Rohan Pandit. Last month during the India-SA game, Sanju Samson’s straight drive smashed into Pandit’s knee, and the physios of both teams ran in to attend to the umpire, on ground wincing in pain. This week, Hardik Pandya’s more ferocious hit flew past Pandit’s temple. That was a close shave. Had Hardik hit the ball an inch to the right, or if Pandit had been a blink slower, something grossly unimaginable would have unfolded. As was the case when Sanju hit him, and when jokes about the umpire getting out ‘leg after the wicket’ were made on air, this time too …

WBBL: Bizarre end to game as umpires abandon match with 3 runs left to win | Cricket News

A Women’s Big Bash League game between the Sydney Thunder and Adelaide Strikers was controversially called off by the umpires on Friday in Adelaide. In a rain-hit match, which was reduced to a five-over game, the Thunder needed just three runs with 13 balls to spare and all ten wickets in hand. But bizarrely, the umpires, citing rain, stopped play and then later abandoned the match. The match had earlier already been reduced to five overs and the Thunder needed 46 runs to win. It was a chase that they looked set to make and were likely one hit away from winning the match, but were denied by some poor game management. One of the commentators working on the game said that there wasn’t a drop of rain taking place and that the Thunder were denied a clear win by the umpires. “That is an utter embarrassment what has taken place here. There is not a drop of rain at the moment and that game was within a whisker of being determined. The result was …

WATCH: Shubman Gill loses cool in heated discussion with umpires during GT vs SRH match | Ipl News

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill wore an uncharacteristically animated self during the IPL 2025 match against the SunRisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium, voicing his displeasure to multiple umpiring decisions on Friday evening. Despite a comfortable 38-run victory amidst a jam-packed home ground, tempers flared when Gill was seen holding lengthy chats with the umpires across both innings. Batting first, the GT captain led the team to yet another formidable start, smashing 76 off 38 balls before a run-out marked his dismissal. The decision by the TV umpire came under scrutiny as Gill was seen charging towards the striker’s end before a throw from short fine-leg was seemingly parried to the stumps by SRH wicket-keeper Heinrich Klaasen. However, Gill was not pleased with the decision to deem him out after Klaasen’s gloves were seen to be in proximity of flicking the bails down before the ball. Virat Kohli’s Reaction To Umpire’s ‘Brain-Fade’ During RCB vs RR Clash Goes Viral – Watch

The IPL 2025 encounter between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals on Thursday saw a bizarre incident when the on-field umpire suffered a ‘brain-fade’ over a LBW decision. In the 10th over of the RR innings, Dhruv Jurel was hit on his pads by a delivery from Krunal Pandya and the umpire gave the decision in RCB’s favour. However, the batter opted for a DRS and replays showed that there was inside edge involved. The third umpire quickly overturned the decision but in a hilarious turn of events, the on-field umpire gave Jurel out before quickly reversing his decision. The incident led to a lot of discussion among fans with Virat Kohli‘s reaction going viral on social media. Kohli was ecstatic after his side managed to break a three-match losing streak at the home venue of M Chinnaswamy Stadium with a win over Rajasthan Royals (RR), expressing relief at his team’s batting template of having one battter bat long and not forcing attacking shots finally paying off. pic.twitter.com/IikNBXktMP — Drizzyat12Kennyat8 (@45kennyat7PM) …

Ishan Kishan’s Massive Brain-Fade, Walks Off Despite Being Not Out vs MI. Umpire’s Reaction Adds To Confusion

Ishan Kishan had a massive brain-fade moment during SunRisers Hyderabad’s IPL 2025 match against Mumbai Indians in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The incident was so bizarre that the commentators said that they had not seen anything like this. It happened on the first ball of the third over. Deepak Chahar’s delivery angled down the leg side and was caught by wicketkeeper MI Ryan Rickleton. Everything seemed normal, as the Umpires signalled wide. But, just then, Ishan Kishan started walking off. He, however, stopped mid-way. Just then the MI players enquired for a catch. The umpire who had his hand partially raised, gave Kishan out. And then, the UltraEdge replay showed there was no edge!  Fairplay or facepalm? Ishan Kishan walks… but UltraEdge says ‘not out!’ What just happened?! To pay tribute to the victims, players and umpires will be wearing black armbands and will also stand for a minute of silence before the match. During the match, no fireworks, cheerleaders will be present on the ground and austerity measures will be maintained throughtout the game. “The players of two teams will wear black armbands and observe a minute’s silence in memory of all those who lost their lives in the terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam,” a BCCI source told media. “As a mark of respect there would be no cheerleaders on the sidelines of MI vs SRH game.
