The Ireland captain, Paul Stirling, has been ruled out of the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 due to knee ligament damage he sustained while fielding during Ireland’s match against Australia. Meanwhile, the tournament’s technical committee has approved Sam Topping as the replacement for Stirling in Ireland’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad. The committee consists of Washim Khan (ICC general manager), Gaurav Saxena (ICC general manager – events and corporate communications), Hemang Amin (tournament director) and Shaun Pollock (independent nominee). Jofra Archer, uncapped Joshua Tongue included in England’s T20 World Cup squad | Cricket News

Jofra Archer who had to pull out of the Ashes mid-way through a side strain has been included in England’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup set to begin in India and Sri Lanka on February 7. Apart from Archer, England have also included pacer Joshua Tongue, who is yet to play any limited-overs internationals in the squad, to be led by Harry Brook. The other major change that England have undertaken is to bring back Ben Duckett as an opener in place of Jamie Smith. The left-hander wasn’t part of England’s squad for the recent T20Is against New Zealand where Smith was preferred. England, winners of the T20 World Cup in 2010 and 2022, have been struggling in white-ball cricket in recent times. Although they made the semi-finals of the last edition, where they lost to India, England have been out of depth in white-ball cricket. Post that tournament, England turned towards Brook to captain the T20 side and as they look to get the team back on track at the World Cup, …

Why CSK and MS Dhoni wanted uncapped players like Prashant Veer, Kartik Sharma in the squad | Cricket News

An unfamiliar scene unfolded at the Chennai Super Kings auction table in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. For the first time in ages, none of the officials or the coach consulted the team’s icon MS Dhoni, the 44-year-old veteran, during the minibreaks nor were on a call with him during the auction as the team went in with changed strategy of breaking the bank for young blood — uncapped Indian players. Dhoni wasn’t micro-managing the auction from afar but had given the go-ahead for blooding youngsters after watching preseason auction trials of players in Chennai. CSK had ended up with the wooden spoon last season, it was time for a change in personnel. Having walked in with a purse of Rs 43.40 crore to strengthen the squad, CSK bagged 21-year-old allrounder Prashant Veer, a like-for-like replacement for Ravindra Jadeja, and wicket-keeper Kartik Sharma, a 19-year-old. Both going for Rs 14.20 crore each, the most ever paid for uncapped players. In an era where franchises were unearthing explosive batsmen, by buying experienced players who seemed like safe …

With Chennai Super Kings breaking the bank for uncapped Indian players Prashant Veer and Kartik Sharma in the IPL mini-auction spending a record sum of Rs 14.20 crore each on the two youngsters, it also meant that the duo would be the most expensive Indian uncapped players in the IPL auction history till present. While Veer comes from Uttar Pradesh, Sharma hails from Rajasthan and the duo joined the likes of youngsters Ayush Mhatre and Sameer Rizvi in the Chennai Super Kings squad and Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Felling has termed the duo as ‘T20 babies’ and has shared how the youngsters have grown up the format in present times. “These are T20 babies. They’ve grown up with the format. They just express their skills. There’s no fear. Sometimes experienced players get caught trying to work out where the game’s going. So there’s real appeal, especially when the game is being played faster and faster. I think it’s a byproduct of T20 being around for some time now, and we’re all learning, being involved …

Meanwhile, Labuschagne could return to his favoured No.3 spot in the batting order after plundering five centuries in seven games across formats for Queensland. After a string of poor scores and Australia’s World Test Championsip final defeat to South Africa in June, Labuschagne was subsequently dropped from the side for the West Indies tour.
