Big relief for NCR commuters: Gaur Chowk underpass in Greater Noida set to open soon | Delhi News

In a move that will come as a relief to a lakh vehicles that travel everyday through Gaur Chowk in Greater Noida, one of the busiest intersections in the NCR, an eight-lane underpass is expected to open by mid-August. The 700-metre-long underpass will run parallel to the Taj Highway and connect Greater Noida (Surajpur) and Gaur City. Officials said 76% of the construction has been completed, and the project is expected to be done ahead of schedule. The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) had planned the project in 2024 to alleviate traffic snarls. The Chowk is a crucial point, leading to Ghaziabad in the North, Greater Noida (Surajpur) in the South, Delhi in the East and National Highway 24 in the West. “Around 1 lakh vehicles pass through the intersection every day,” said an official, adding that 30,000 vehicles are expected to use the underpass. The official also said it was a six-lane underpass earlier, which has now been expanded to eight. Officials said 76% of the construction has been completed. (Express Photo by Gajendra …

Bhairon Marg Underpass by February

Bhairon Marg Underpass by February

2 min readNew DelhiMay 6, 2026 09:03 PM IST After several missed deadlines and delays, the last leg of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor — Bhairon Marg Underpass 5 — which passes beneath an active railway line is likely to be completed by February next year. Public Works Department (PWD) minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said that the work on the stretch has been resumed and is going in full swing. “Work has gathered pace… We have also got an in-principle NOC from the Indian Railways. Trains are likely to be diverted for a few days so that the work is completed on time,” he said. The 110-metre-long Underpass 5 was supposed to be completed and inaugurated along with the Pragati Maidan tunnel and other underpasses on this stretch as part of the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor redevelopment project. However, owing to an active railway line over the stretch and fluctuations in the Yamuna water level, it was delayed. In 2023, the work was halted after precast concrete boxes, pushed beneath the active railway …

Wildlife thrives along Delhi-Dehradun corridor, leopard, elephants use underpass

Wildlife thrives along Delhi-Dehradun corridor, leopard, elephants use underpass

A significant milestone in sustainable development has been successfully achieved after leopard, herd of elephants and other wild animals were seen using an underpass at the Delhi-Dehradun corridor. The Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor has helped reduce the risk of human-wildlife conflict and prevented the isolation of animal populations in the region. By maintaining natural movement routes, the project supports long-term biodiversity conservation. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), in collaboration with the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), has released a report titled `Landscapes Reconnected`. The report presents the first clear evidence of wildlife using specially designed animal underpasses along the Delhi-Dehradun Economic Corridor. The findings show that modern highway development can successfully coexist with nature, even in ecologically sensitive regions. Underpasses help wildlife move safely A leopard seen using the underpass. Pic/Special Arrangement The study focused on an 18 km stretch between Ganeshpur and Asharodi, a forested region in the Shivalik range. This area is home to endangered species such as tigers, elephants, greater hornbills and king cobras. A key feature of this corridor is …

Caught in a Limbo: Delays plague R.R. Nagar flyover and underpass projects, commuters bear the brunt

Caught in a Limbo: Delays plague R.R. Nagar flyover and underpass projects, commuters bear the brunt

Much like last year, two crucial projects aimed at decongesting West Bengaluru’s R.R. Nagar have not moved an inch, while one long-neglected project has finally been revived. Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai laid the foundation stone for all three projects in 2022. Since then, residents of the area haven’t received anything more than false promises from the erstwhile Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike and, now, the West City Corporation. The two untouched projects are the Rajarajeshwari Nagar arch ramps and the Annapoorneshwari Nagar junction underpass, intended to ease traffic flow on Mysuru Road in the western part of the city. Three years after work on these projects began, there has been negligible progress, followed by a complete halt. In contrast, work on the Ullal junction underpass, which had been stalled for three years, resumed last month and is now progressing slowly. However, officials of the West City Corporation appear to have little clarity on the status of these projects. Despite sustained attempts over two days to contact the Chief Engineer overseeing the projects, there was no …

NHAI decides to redesign vehicular underpass planned at Maruthi Nagar in Tiruchi

NHAI decides to redesign vehicular underpass planned at Maruthi Nagar in Tiruchi

MOORTHY The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is “redesigning” the vehicular underpass (VUP) at Maruthi Nagar, the entry point to the city from the Chennai-Tiruchi-Thoothukudi National Highway. The move comes in the wake of lukewarm response from contractors to repeated tenders floated by the NHAI for the project. The NHAI, in an attempt to ease the traffic congestion at the intersection, planned to construct an overbridge near Maruthi Nagar for through-traffic to go over. It would be a vehicular underpass too as the existing carriageways will cater to vehicles exiting the highway towards the city and those entering the highway from here. The overbridge, proposed to have six lanes, was estimated to cost ₹45 crore approximately. The VUP was considered essential as the intersection witnesses heavy traffic round-the-clock and is situated on a curve. An automatic traffic signal has been installed at the intersection; police have placed barricades to force vehicles to slow …
