‘There’s still time to undo the wrong’: Sunil Gavaskar says Indian franchises should refrain from buying Pakistan players | Cricket News

3 min readMar 16, 2026 04:44 PM IST Sunil Gavaskar has said that Indian franchise owners should refrain from acquiring Pakistan players in teams owned by them that play in leagues outside India. Gavaskar’s comments come after Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed was acquired by Sunrisers Leeds in The Hundred Auction. Sunrisers are owned by the Chennai-based Sun TV Network, which also owns the Sunerisers Hyderabad in the IPL. “The furore created by the acquisition of a Pakistani player by the Indian owner of a franchise in The Hundred is hardly surprising. Ever since the Mumbai attacks in November 2008, Indian franchise owners have simply ignored Pakistani players for the IPL,” wrote Gavaskar in his column for Mid-Day. “Although belated, the realisation that the fees that they pay to a Pakistani player, who then pays income tax to his government which buys arms and weapons, indirectly contributes to the deaths of Indian soldiers and civilians is making Indian entities refrain from even considering having Pakistani artistes and sportspersons. Whether it is an Indian entity or an …

More work needed to undo Congress’s anti-farmer policies: PM Modi

Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday accused previous Congress governments at the Centre of neglecting farmers’ needs for decades and said that while his government has pursued farmer-friendly policies over the past 11 years, more work is needed to address all outstanding issues. PM Modi said India is on the way to becoming self-reliant in fertilisers in the near future (@NarendraModi) Addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation stone of an ammonia-urea fertiliser plant at Namrup in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, PM Modi said, “Farmers have a big role in the goal of establishing a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and therefore our government is working day and night keeping their benefits in mind. In addition to agricultural incentives, it is necessary to ensure enough urea fertiliser for our farmers. This new plant will help achieve that.” Modi accused previous Congress governments at the Centre of failing to upgrade the existing fertiliser plant at Namrup with improved technology, which led to the closure of some units in the complex, in turn affecting urea production and …

Doctor explains why 10,000 steps can’t undo 10 hours of sitting: ‘You can hit step goal but…’

A doctor’s Instagram post about the hidden dangers of prolonged sitting is gaining attention online after he explained why even 10,000 steps a day cannot undo the damage caused by 10 hours of immobility. The doctor said that the damage begins long before people lace up their shoes for an evening walk. (Unsplash/Representative image) Taking to Instagram, Dr Sumit Kapadia, who, according to his bio, is a vascular surgeon and varicose vein specialist, wrote that most people assume that hitting their step goal in the evening cancels out a sedentary workday, but he explained that the body doesn’t work that way. Dr Kapadia said that even if someone achieves their daily 10,000 steps, spending the entire day desk-bound from 9 am to 7 pm still harms circulation. “This is something I tell my patients almost every day. You can hit your step goal in the evening…but if you’ve been desk-bound from 9 AM to 7 PM, your veins have already taken the damage,” he wrote in the caption of his Instagram post. Dr Kapadia explained …

‘Can’t undo past but can improve present’: Delhi CM gives job letters to kin of 1984 riot victims | Delhi News

The 1984 riots in Delhi remain a dark chapter in the history of India, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Tuesday as she handed over appointment letters for government jobs to the relatives of those killed in the carnage. “For those who lost loved ones, no compensation can ever be enough for their pain. We cannot undo the past, but we can certainly improve their present…This is more than a bureaucratic decision — it is a restoration of rightful entitlements,” said the CM at the event held at the Delhi Secretariat. The appointment letters were handed over to 19 persons for multi-tasking staff (MTS) roles in the revenue department. Many recipients were emotional after receiving the job offers. Joginder Singh, who lost his father in the riots when he was just three, said, “Ab hum matha tekne ja rahe hai (Now, we are going to pay obedience to God).” “This is not just an appointment — it is justice walking into their lives after 40 years of silence and struggle,” the CM asserted. Hailing Prime …

Sun sets on Hyderabad as rains undo Pat Cummins’ stormy spell | Ipl News

SRH vs DC Synopsis: Skipper Pat Cummins leads from the front to restrict Delhi Capitals to subpar total of 133/7 but eventually rain played the spoilsport washing away any hopes of registering a rare home win and also ending their chance of playoff qualification. Although rain ensured they got a point, after starting the season well, Axar Patel’s men are stuttering with three losses in a row and are on a downward spiral going into the crucial stage of the tournament. Pat Cummins-Beta version It was not Perth. It was Hyderabad, the stadium that has seen bowlers being massacred in recent history. It was Pat Cummins, not in whites but doing his franchise duties as captain for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. But the batters facing the SRH skipper today in the first powerplay would have experienced a beta version of Cummins with a red-ball in Perth. There was nothing to drive for the batters from Cummins in that fiery opening …

Urging the people to re-elect him as the chief minister ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Wednesday launched a ‘Jansampark Yatra’, a mass outreach campaign to address questions surrounding his five-month imprisonment. The yatra, Kejriwal said, has been planned to ensure that Delhi residents understand why he was jailed and the challenges AAP faced during his absence. As part of the campaign that will continue till October 29, AAP workers will visit households across Delhi to distribute a letter from Kejriwal revealing the “truth” behind his and other party leaders’ arrest in the corruption cases. “I have met a lot of people ever since I came out of jail. I know there are questions in people’s hearts about why I was imprisoned. That is why I have written a letter answering those questions,” Kejriwal said as he addressed party workers gathered at the AAP headquarters during the launch of the ‘Jansampark Yatra’. The AAP supremo asked the party workers to explain his stance …
