Thakur, who was the only Hindu candidate in the fray in the Muslim-majority constituency in Uttar Pradesh, won the seat with a margin of over 1.4 lakh votes, helping BJP to reclaim the seat after a gap of 30 years. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies won 26 of the 46 assembly by-poll seats on Saturday, scoring a hefty gain of nine seats. The Congress won seven of these seats, registering a net loss of six seats. Regional bigwigs Trinamool Congress, Aam Aadmi Party and Samajwadi Party won six, three and two seats respectively. Samajwadi Party won Karhal and Sishamau. Speaking at a press conference, CM Yogi congratulated party leaders and workers. In the next few hours, the Election Commission of India will declare the results.
