Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday chaired a high-level meeting on setting up of a corporation — Uttar Pradesh Outsource Service Corporation (UPCOS) — to streamline labour entitlements and fair remuneration of outsourced workers in the administration. Last month, The Indian Express had reported that the Uttar Pradesh government was planning to set up a separate corporation to manage affairs of outsourced employees – from centralised hiring to looking after their financial and job security aspects, and ensuring reservation for the Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and OBCs in contract employment. A proposal to this effect is to be tabled before the Cabinet for approval. It is estimated that there are over 11 lakh contractual employees working in its 93 departments of the state administration.
