Washington: After the US Supreme Court temporarily barred the deportation of migrants, President Donald Trump’s administration has urged the top court to allow the use of alternative laws to remove a group of Venezuelan migrants detained in Texas, CNN reported. Following the Supreme Court’s order, the US Justice Department argued that the justices should deny the request to halt deportations under the controversial wartime authority provided by the Alien Enemies Act. The Justice Department further urged the Supreme Court to provide clarity that it may remove at least some of the same migrants under less controversial immigration laws. The Supreme Court’s order did not distinguish between deportations under the Alien Enemies Act and other laws, CNN reported. 388 Indians Deported From US Since January 2025: Government

New Delhi: A total of 388 Indian nationals have been deported from the US since January 2025, the government informed Parliament on Friday. Of these, 333 were deported directly from the US on three separate military flights in February. Also, the US deported 55 Indian nationals through Panama in commercial flights, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said in a written response in Lok Sabha. The Ministry of External Affairs was asked whether the Union government has received the details of the persons to be deported from the US this year, and if US officials were requested to provide them adequate facilities. The ministry was also asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi had raised concerns with President Donald Trump and top US officials over the “ill treatment” meted out to the deportees. Twelve Indian nationals, who were deported to Panama by the US, returned to India from the Latin American nation on Sunday evening, officials said. The deportees arrived at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi, marking the first batch of Indians returning from Panama following their deportation by the US. Image Source : PTI Relatives wait outside the airport ahead of the second batch of immigrants arrival from the US, in Amritsar Indians deported from the US: A US military aircraft carrying 112 Indians landed at Amritsar airport late Sunday night, marking the third such flight deporting individuals amid the Donald Trump administration’s crackdown on illegal immigrants. As per the sources, the plane landed at the airport at 10:03 pm.  Among the 112 deportees, 44 are from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, 31 from Punjab, two from Uttar Pradesh, and one each from Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, said sources. Some families of the deportees have arrived at the airport.
