Hit-and-run in Vadodara: Cops begin search for vehicle | Ahmedabad News

Three persons suffered serious injuries in a hit-and-run case near the Sama Indoor Sports Complex late on Tuesday night, prompting the Vadodara city police to book an unidentified four-wheeler driver in a case of rash driving on public way and endangering personal safety on Wednesday. The incident occurred at around 10.30pm on Tuesday when a speeding car crashed into two street vendors and a senior citizen couple, who were riding a motorcycle. The police are yet to trace the car driver, who has been captured in CCTV footage in the vicinity. Based on the complaint by a vegetable vendor Vinodkumar Agarwal (51), the Sama police station has lodged an FIR against the unidentified four-wheeler driver for reckless driving and endangering the personal safety of others. In his complaint, Agarwal said he was passing by Sama Sports Complex with his vegetable handcart, when a speeding car crashed into him from behind, seriously injuring his right foot. Another vendor and the couple on the two-wheeler were also hit, with the pillion rider woman suffering serious head injury. …

Vadodara Police keep close eye on 2-wheelers, crack down on sale & delivery of intoxicants | Ahmedabad News

SEVERAL SPECIAL units of the Vadodara City Police have trained its hawk eyes on two-wheelers this New Year’s Eve and the extended celebrations are expected to run into the weekend. While it may appear to be an initiative for traffic regulation, the police are especially cracking down on illicit sale and delivery of intoxicants through clandestine means. The Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB), Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) on Wednesday evening fanned out in the city, especially check points to keep an eye on two-wheelers suspected to be used to privately deliver liquor and contraband in the city during  New Year celebrations. The initiative is part of the police action plan to intercept those indulging in crimes under the Prohibition Law as well as NDPS. In the past week alone, the city police have registered two offences involving delivery of liquor on two-wheelers as well as one of delivery of contraband on a two wheeler, earlier in December. Starting tomorrow, 2 ROBs in Vadodara to be closed for commuters | Ahmedabad News

The Vadodara City Police Thursday notified the closure of two major Railway Overbridges (ROB) for at least a month, beginning Saturday, to undertake the repair work, said an official notification. The Jetalpur bridge and a part of the Lalbaug bridge — connecting Pratapnagar to Vishwamitri — will remain closed to vehicular traffic until February 17. According to the government notification issued Thursday, the road closures had “become necessary to allow the mastic resurfacing work” to be undertaken by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation.  The mastic resurfacing work is the process of repairing cracks and potholes and restoring roads using a hot-poured liquid asphalt. Although the notification states that the bridges will remain closed until February 17, the period of closure “could be revised” based on the completion of the work. The Vadodara City Traffic Police also provided alternate roads to motorists instead of the two bridges that connect major roads. While Jetalpur bridge connects Sayajigunj to Akota and Alkapuri, the Lalbaug bridge —with four exit points — connects Vishwamitri, Rajmahal road, Pratapnagar and Manjalpur. According to …
