Initial inquiry revealed that a few passersby noticed that the main door of the hut was open with Pounammal lying on the floor, after which they alerted the police. | Photo Credit: Special Arrangement A 65-year-old woman was found dead with injuries in her hut at Bethakallupatti village near Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur on the Chennai – Bengaluru Highway (NH 48) and her gold jewellery, including earrings and bangles, were missing. Police said the deceased has been identified as N. Pounammal, a native of Bethakallupatti village. Her husband died in a road accident a few years ago and she was living in the hut on the stretch after her three children abandoned her. Initial inquiry revealed that a few passersby noticed that the main door of the hut was open with Pounammal lying on the floor. Immediately, they alerted Amballur police, who rushed to the spot. Car catches fire near Vaniyambadi

Police said an electrical short circuit might be the reason for the accident. A 43-year-old man escaped unhurt after the car he was travelling in caught fire near Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur on Alangayam Main Road on Sunday. The police said that as part of his business work, G. Kandan, a native of Tirupattur, was travelling to Bengaluru when he noticed smoke from the bonnet of the vehicle. Immediately, he got down from the car. The incident happened around 4 p.m. Before firefighters from Vaniyambadi doused the fire, the car got completely gutted. Mr. Kandan was sent to Government Taluk Hospital for medical check-up. Police removed the charred vehicle from the carriageway to resume traffic movement on the stretch. Police said an electrical short circuit might be the reason for the accident. A case was registered by Alangayam police. A probe is under way. Students of Vaniyambadi college hold candlelight vigil for Pahalgam victims

More than 3,000 students and staff of Marudhar Kesari Jain College for Women in Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur on Wednesday, gathered for a candlelight vigil to mourn the loss of innocent lives in the terror attack on the tourists in Pahalgam in Kashmir. According to a press release, the horrific incident, which claimed the lives of innocent tourists and left several injured, has left the students shocked and deeply saddened. The thoughts and prayers of the participants in the vigil in the college are with the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in the tragedy, the release said. The college students expressed outrage against the attack by holding placards with slogans against such acts, the release noted. Three children drown in lakes near Vaniyambadi, Polur towns in T.N.

Police said the deceased were identified as M. Jothika (8) and her brother M. Jothi (7), and S. Hrithikroshan (4). The siblings were the children of agricultural labourer S. Murugan (37) and his wife M. Devi (32), residents of Kothakottai village near Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur. Jothika and her brother had gone to a nearby lake to give a bath to their pet dog, when they slipped and fell into the waterbody. As the children were missing for a long time, Murugan and his wife went in search of them and found the pet dog near the lake. School student dies of dengue near Vaniyambadi town 

A 12-year-old boy in Valayambattu village near Vaniyambadi town died of dengue fever, prompting the district administration to intensify preventive measures including fogging and clearing of stagnant water in abandoned spots in the affected area, on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. Health officials said that the child, identified as R. Gopinath, was a class 8 student at a private school in Vaniyambadi town. He was admitted to the Government Taluk Hospital in Vaniyambadi on January 2 due to high fever. Despite treatment, his fever continued and he suffered from vomiting and tiredness. Gopinath was subsequently admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital in Krishnagiri on January 4. As his health deteriorated, he was transferred to a private hospital in Bengaluru by his parents on January 5, where he died around 10.45 p.m. on January 8. After the post-mortem, the body of the boy was handed over to his parents. Health officials said that on an average, 10-15 cases of dengue are reported in Tirupattur district every month. “We have disinfected the entire affected area [Anna Nagar …
